Yes everyones fave 4'11' inch miget is at it again. After bolloxing up War of the Worlds hes now to play Von Stafenberg (the guy who tried to kill Hitler) (should that be now Von Shortenberg)
Well Germany is in uproar because a) Von Spielberg (sorry Stafenberg) is a bit of a hero over there and b) Cruise is a space boy Scientologist and germanyy has decalred it a cult and banned it!
Still i wonder what mess of history Cruise will make of this.

Yes, I read about that. And I'm confident that Cruise can pull this off. The project will be directed by Brian Singer, a very good director IMHO. Also it will star Carice van Houten a Dutch actress who played the lead in Paul Verhoeven's 'Blackbook' which is one of the best WWII movies I've ever seen. Some of you will probably not share my opinion but I think Tom Cruise is a good actor. As for what he does in his spare time, I don't care. He has the right to act like an idiot and be part of the Scientology community, and you can say what you want but he certainly spiced up the Oprah Winfrey Show. Tripod

Well, I think his acting in WOTWs was good too - most noteably the bread scene. He's also made a few other decent films imo (Collateral, Minority Report, The Last Samurai, the MI films and A Few Good Men).

...director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck - who won this year's best foreign language film Oscar for The Lives of Others - has defended Cruise, telling the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper that having him play Stauffenberg "would promote Germany's image more than 10 football World Cups".
I see he has his supporters though...

Yeah but apparently the family of Von saffenberg has objected and they went ahead against their wishes.

looks mr snooze got his way Filming begins on Tom Cruise movie BERLIN - Shooting began Thursday in a forest outside Berlin on a movie starring Tom Cruise as Germany's most famous anti-Hitler plotter. The German government said it was letting filmmakers shoot anywhere they requested, except the former German general staff headquarters.

I never thought I'd stick up for Cruise playing Stauffenberg in any way and I still think he's a naff actor "extraordinaire" and shouldn't have been cast in WOTW - but there's a photo of him next to Stauffenberg in todays Daily Express and he does actually look like him. I don't know how tall Stauffenberg was though.

Don't some of you guys think that this is getting a bit old now? Who gives a crap about TWoTW... That's old news.... and a long time ago. You know, he could be great as Von Stauffenburg.... and I will not be judging him by his past performances in certain movies (which weren't ALL his fault!) until I have seen this. While we're at it, he wasn't bad as 'Ray'. THAT whole blame thing could probably be pointed at Paramount and the other 'SS'. Seems (as we know) they got the willies when they found out there were more TWoTW adaptions coming soon. Okay, he's a bit 'nutty'... but so is Sunpat.... and I don't have a go at that before I put that on my toast.
