Some of these film makers are so obsessed with putting homages and gimmicks in their movies they forget to make a good film in the first place - hence the ridiculous plot holes.

DF (thats Dacota Fanning and not David (i cant pronounce his name at the moment) had to have been the most irritating kid on screen since the Jurassic park kids. For the love of God, man! JAKE LLOYD! JACK-FECKING-LLOYD! Remember this line? "Yippee!" Surely there is no worse a child actor?

Yes - the little jedi kid who tells Anakin what's been happening in the Jedi temple in Episode 3. Seems Lucas was a personal quest to make Anni the best actor in this particular scene, which is saying something....

Never work with children and animals...
Or American kids and Dinosaurs in Spielberg's case.

So I’m at my aunt’s house and somehow the ferry scene from “The War of The Worlds” comes up. Out of nowhere my ten year old cousin says “Ah, it would have been cooler if they had the Thunder Child”. Can you believe it? A ten year old points out the one thing I somehow overlooked in the ferry scene, where the heck was the Thunder Child?

Instead of the Thunderchild though they should've used some elves in the fairy scene! ;D

You can tell anything about SS, but one thing that's for sure is that he knows what does fit and what doesn't.

Before seeing the movie, I had heard the aliens use an EMP to take out our electronics and communications. I had hoped that this would lead to some older, pre-transistor era tech being used against them, say WW II vintage. I was imagining a bunch of old geezers taking an old warship out of mothballs and sending that against the aliens' tripods. Not late 19th century tech, of course. There's no reason "Thunder Child" couldn't be the name of a WW II era destroyer or cruiser.

Yes, not bad idea, but we all know SS was short in time and (maybe) money. Maybe some coast guard (you know, white , red strip) named Thunderchild?

Yes, a Coastguard Cutter named Thunder Child!
There could have been some sort of fluke caused by the tripod in water, the cutter could have gotten a shot through the shields destroying one of the tripods before it sank. It could have something to do with surface tension and how the water’s conductive qualities might have caused a disruption in the shields!

Or the ship could/might have rammed the tripod slicing a large hole in the front and drowing the operator(s)?
