I’ve always liked the old board game “Escape from Planet Zero”.

I like the 'Axis and Allies' Games. But a good ol' game of chess never goes a miss.

When I were a lad, I used to like the old 'Hero Quest' (my character? Ignor the Barbarian) and 'Space Crusade' games. Hours of fun! I quite like 'Ultimatum' but it gives me a bit of a headache... or perhaps thats the beer consumed whilst playing .

My friends and I used to gather on New Year's Day to play Civilization, the Avalon Hill game. With several playing, the competition was very fierce. But the game was quite memorable and very enjoyable. I can't say I've ever found wargames as rewarding as that. Steve Jackson's classic "Ogre" micro-game is fun for a "lite" wargame, and has the added fun of having a stfnal** setting. One side takes over a dozen combat units, including infantry platoons, heavy tanks, heavy missile launchers, armored GEVs (hovercraft)... and the other side gets just one Ogre super-tank. It's an even match. Of course, there are "party" board games such as "Trivial Pursuit" and "Encore" that I also enjoy. A very different board game is "The A-Maze-ing Labyrinth", which has movable tiles constructing a maze which you must move your piece thru. Thinking and spatial recognition will help you win. Our family played this recently when we had some Chinese guests for dinner-- the language barrier didn't matter. Everyone who played really enjoyed it, and the Chinese family later bought their own copy of the game. And oldie-but-goody, sadly long out of print, is "Gusher", also a very different board game. You play an oil tycoon. The board is hollow and has wooden pieces of different shapes inside. You shake the board before play, so no one knows where the wooden pieces are. The surface of the board is divided up into many different properties. You bid for and buy a property, and then "drill" for oil with a toy derrick. You insert the derrick's pin into one of the many holes in the surface of the board and hope it sticks up in a "gusher"! If it bottoms out in a "dry hole" you've lost the money you spent. Every turn you collect income from your "gushers". First one to get a million dollars wins. Let's hear it for the joys of capitalism! **stfnal = scientifictional, an older term for science-fictional.

My other half and I often enjoy a game of 'Senet'. It's an ancient Egyptian boardgame and a forerunner of backgammon. The rules are very simple but the gameplay can be quite fiendish. It's very easy to get to a situation where you think you've got the whole game stitched up when sudden your opponent pulls off a brilliant series of lucky moves and leaves you staring into the pit of defeat.
I used to really enjoy playing 'Space Hulk' with a load of mates when I was younger, I might look up a copy on eBay....

I always loved "Hero Quest", brilliant game!! Being an old fashioned fuddy duddy, I always loved to play good old Chess!! No-one ever wants to play it anymore though, I'll have a look online to see if there's a site for playing, and if anyones interested, I'd give them a game or three!
