“Grape Ape” hasn’t been forgotten, it’s on TV (Boomerang) every single day! And I’ve seen reruns of “Wait ‘til Your Father Gets Home”, “The Harlem Globetrotters” and the old “Godzilla” on Cartoon Network. In the days of satellite TV you can’t forget anything; if it’s not on Boomerang it’s on TV Land.

This thread is about cartoons forgotten to all but those who are Cartoon Network viewers, then. But not all have been on Cartoon Network, anyway. More American Cartoons: Star Trek (!) Goober and the Ghost Chasers (cynical Scooby Doo rip off.. by the same company) The Oddball Couple (fussy cat and scruffy dog obviously based on 'The Odd Couple') Baggy Pants and the Nitwits The Funky Phantom ('The spirit of 1776 even!'- A catchphrase incomprehensible to a 70's British kid) The Jackson Five Captain Caveman (yes I know this has been on Cartoon Network, btw ) The Perils of Penelope Pitstop (ditto) Help! It's the Hair Bear Bunch (double ditto) Smurfs (triple ditto) The Pink Panther Show (quadruple ditto with a cherry on top) Valley of the Dinosaurs How about some British shows of the 70's and 80's?: Simon and his Chalk Drawings Jamie and the Magic Torch (obviously) Cloppa Castle Roobarb (ace feem toon) Willo the Wisp The mighty, and essential, 'Trap Door' The almost as essential 'Danger Mouse'. Chorlton and the Wheelies Mr Benn Mary Mungo and Midge Hector's House. The slightly odd (I always thought) 'Rupert the Bear' And yes... Bagpuss.

'banana splits show ( o.k. technically not a cartoon show but i liked it )'
I liked it too. But, looking back, it was obviously a repository for the studio's less popular/interesting cartoons. For example, I really wasn't keen on 'The Arabian Nights', that they showed on there.

Dang it, Nerf! I was just gonna mention 'The Pink Panther!' ;D And I do remember (just barely) 'Wait 'till Your Father Gets Home'. Way ahead of it's time! A few others I remember, 'Rocky and Bullwinkle' (General Mills, 1961-1973) 'Speed Buggy' (Hanna-Barbera, 1973) 'Battle of the Planets' Also called 'G-Force' (1978) (And my first introduction to 'anime') Intro here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoO5H_UKCrw'The New Adventures of Flash Gordon'. (Filmation, 1979) Simply one of the best animated cartoon series, evah. Intro: www.youtube.com/watch?v=M216Bf4pXGc

"Herculoids"-- In prehistoric times, a caveman superhero and his dinosaur followers fight sinister foes. Some cable station is currently running them here! Not *nearly* as good as I remembered... "Underdog"-- This is still worth watching after all these years, as it's a superhero *parody*. Mild mannered shoeshine boy, when reporter Sweet Polly Purebred (who was a dog too) was threatened, became the superhero-- Underdog! Several members of my SF club can still sing the theme song, or at least parts of it: When criminals in this world appear And break the laws that they should fear And frighten all who see or hear The cry goes up both far and near For Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder Fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog. Underdog!
When in this world the headlines read Of those whose hearts are filled with greed Who rob and steal from those who need To right this wrong with blinding speed Goes Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!
Speed of lightning, roar of thunder Fighting all who rob or plunder Underdog. Underdog! "Mighty Mouse"Here I come to save the day, Mighty mouse is on the way!Mighty Mouse had the powers of Superman, fighting evil cats and rescuing helpless mice from danger. "Astro Boy"This was the first Anime I ever saw on TV; the original 1963 version, not one of the later versions. Astro Boy was my favorite TV show at the time (I would have been 8 years old); I even had a 45rpm record of the theme song! There you go Astro Boy On your flight into space. Rocket high, through the sky What adventures soon you will face.
Astro Boy bombs away On your mission today Here’s the countdown, and a blast off Everything is GO Astro Boy.
Astro Boy as you fly, Strange new worlds you will spy. Atom celled, jet propelled, Fighting monsters high in the sky.
Astro Boy there you go, Will you find friend or foe? Cosmic ranger, laugh at danger, Everything is GO Astro Boy. Friends will cheer you, you’re a hero. As you go, go, GO, Astro Boy!"Wacky Races" has already been mentioned. Perhaps not quite so forgotten, then? I certainly remember Dick Dastardly and his dog Muttley, constantly muttering (sassa rassa frassin...) * * * * * In my opinion, "The Jetsons" doesn't qualify as forgotten! It's very much a part of our culture, at least here in the U.S. "The New Adventures of Flash Gordon" is now available on DVD. I'll second its nomination as one of the best cartoon shows ever! tinyurl.com/ypokbn

Wow, I’m only 24 years old and I’ve seen over ninety percent of what’s listed there. I spent most of my summer vacations growing up watching old cartoons and old TV shows like “Superman”, “Logan’s Run the TV series” and “The Land of The Lost”.
“Josie in Outer Space” was one of my all-time favorites.

[quote author=admin board=mtv thread=1172962372 Star Trek (!) I remember that show. We've tapped an episode called 'Trouble with Tribbles' I think it is (And the Kinglon Battlecruiser and their new weapons ) - but I don't know where it is now. I keep meaning to find it out but I'm running out of places to look. But I don't believed it's been tapped over.

The complete Star Trek Animated Series is also now available on DVD in a boxed set. The title of the episode you refer to is "More Tribbles, More Troubles", a sequel to the Classic Trek episode "The Trouble with Tribbles".

Why OH Why has no-one mentioned Roger Ramjet?!!!
I remember seeing the feature length Flash Gordon cartoon- it's awesome. Similar in plot to the (in)famous movie, but enough differences to make it stand out!
Yea- Trap Door was awesome (as was the speccy game!). I have Chorlton & The Wheelies on DVD- I love that show.
More importantly, REN AND STIMPY! You EEEEEDIOTS!
