And why is there a tank in the left background? Tanks weren't invented until 1917, and even then they looked nothing like the tank shown here.

Looks like a milking stool made out of Forth Bridge by Wallace & Gromit! ;D
Anyway - any sign of the download/music? It would be really appreciated!

That's Okay then, because Wells did describe the fighting machine as QUOTE: a milking stool tilted and bowled violently along the ground. END QUOTE. ;D What I like about this picture is the way the Martian is leaning out of the window to shoot at people. Headline in the Maybury Gazet 'Martians do drive-by shooting'.

Actually, Wells was describing how the tripod seemed to be walking while he was only able to see it when lightning struck. To continue your quote: "Instead of a milk stool, imagine a great body of machinery on a tripod stand. That was the impression those flashes made."

If anyone is still interested, I have two versions of the audio. One is a download from the original poster and one, I found posted elsewhere on the web. One version is mono and the other is a stereo mix.

If you could that would be great! I have heard it before but a long time ago and now I can't find my download. It would be interesting to hear it again.

Great. I will be happy to post them. Can anyone suggest a good, user-friendly file hosting service? I don't subscribe to one at the moment and the files are a bit large to e-mail. As soon as I can get them uploaded, I'll post the links.
