Yess its been confirmed that Sky One and an independent company that they are actively beginning a Battlestar styled re imagining of Blakes 7 As many of us know B7 broke th mould in the 70's by having arc stories, 3d characters that had flaws, biting scripts, adult themes, cliffhangars and to kill off characters as and when it needed it. The final shoot out still gives me goose pimples. Ther show is rumoured to be centered around primarily the crew of the liberator as they fight the Federation. (before the origonal story went off on a tangent in season 4) No one knows who will play the legendary Roj Blake but fans are screaming for Phillip 'Gene Hunt' Glennister to be approached to play Blake. Alright Avon fire up the Liberator...

I read about this Friday and it could be great if done properly. I hope it captures the spirit of the original but I'm surprised it's taken so long!

God i hate that show, i watched Saturdays episodes and my opinion hasnt altered much. Its a garbage scow, a rotten crotch of a programme. B7 if done properly could be Britains answer to BSG. When B7 was on telly it regularly beat Doctor Who in the ratings. I hope this will be the same.

No one has said (as far as I know... and I have seen this news) that it would be a 'BSG' style remake, so hold your horses! In fact, there is little known about this... not even when it will be made. Apparently the only news is that it has been given the Sky One green light. Also, it will be an 'event' two-parter, the way I heard it. Which means shit all to me cos I'm one of those 'lucky' people with Virgin cable. Yay. The original was good, though,... I was there for that. So, do we really need a remake? Just goes to show how desperate for good plots the TV folks of today are.

Yes it did. Doesn't mean this will do the same. The trouble with American TV show peeps is they don't know when to stop things. 'Lost' is a prime example. If it makes money, they will drag it out. Hopefully, this won't be a problem with the B7 remake (and I'll watch it somehow).

There's been a few good stories on Doctor who but some of it is definitely garbage I agree [ I think Russell Tw*t Davies has a lot to answer for there ]. I liked the way they did the Sontarans though. I hope they don't re-imagine Blakes 7 too much.

Having a SF series with a continuing storyline and a clearly envisioned end has been a problem for American TV. Both "Babylon 5" and now "Battlestar Galactica" ended a season sooner than planned by the show's creator. But still, I think that's better than having a show drag on past the point where it's still creative and fun. (Have to agree with Nerfy about "Lost".) Look at "Stargate SG-1"; that limped on for at least two seasons, maybe three, longer than it should have. And even my very favorite (at least before the new BSG), "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", should have ended a season sooner than it did.
I only got to see a few episodes, on VHS, of the old "Blake's 7". Obviously the writing was light-years better than any other SF on TV at the time. I hope the show goes in the direction of "re-imagining" rather than sequel. Frankly, I doubt there's much chance of a sequel-- almost all the original characters were killed off in the last few episodes! And here's hoping that BBC America will throw a bone to those of us living in the wasteland of the Yanks, and let us see this new show!

I really liked Blakes 7, mainly for the "anti-hero" heroes ! Hope they keep it the same, with most of the crew actively hating each other but still having some respect for their colleagues abilities. The scripts are much more fun that way The problem with much of Star Trek and Doctor Who is that everyone seems to fall in love with each other !

Also, they shouldnt muck about with the Liberator too much, like the Movie Enterprise and The Galactica there is room for tweaking it but they shouldnt mess around with the design too much.
If it does go beyond a mini series and turns into a full show i hope they explore the Andromeda war which they didn't do in S3. In S2 of B7 the cliffhangar sees the Liberator about to stand off against a huge armada aof Andromeda ships that had broken through the galactic barrier. In S3 it was a year later, the Andromeda war was over and Blake had vanished (because the actor playing him didnt want to do it any more)
I would have thought it to be cool if S3 of the new one showed the unseen year long war and the truce between Blake and the Federation as they battled the Andromedians with both sides plotting to be rid of the other when the fighting ends. Blake knew the War weakened the Federation and Serverlan knew that Blake would take advantage when the fighting stopped.
I'd bypass the Season 4 totally and concentrate on Blake and serverlan moving against each other in the aftermath of the war instead where it all comes to a head.

I agree that Glennister would make a fine Blake. If it's done right with a clearly defined lifespan from the start and with a BSG feel to it it could be well worth watching.

I'd have a new crew and a new ship.
How i do the new series: a continuation.
Phillip Glennister (my choice for new leader too) is a technician, a slave working to build a new prototype starship. He's appalled at the Federal use of slave labour and the harsh treatment of federal citizens. his wife and child is kept in a prison camp as incentive for his cooperation.
The new secret ship hes working on looks familiar to fans Its not the same as the liberator but it clearly has influences. Its clear the federation is using itsknowledge of the liberator to build a new prototype ship. PG also learns that a survivor from the Liberator Avon and Vila, is being forced to help develop the new ship.
PG learns that once the new ship is complete there are orders to terminate the slave workers, and he learns his wife and child are actually dead. Overwhelmed with anger he vows to destroy the federation.
He organises an escape and breakout. Stealing the new ship he flees with his new crew. frees the people. Avon goes with them and as they depart Avon looks at PG and says
'So you are the new Blakes 7'
PG: You could say that,
Avon: You are a fool, just like HIM, and look where it got him.
PG: I will finish what he started.
Avon.. or die trying at least your in good company.

What amuses me is that the UK Government showed concern about all the reality crap so many Brits watch a few years back. We got that from the US surely? Anyway, nothing was done... so here we are. And yet, the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are STILL easily capable of offering AMAZING programing... even now. Although, the BBC seem to be fixated with the 'Jane Austen' style of period broadcasting. All bustles, bonnets and a distinct lack of proper plots.... and a lack of real interest. I suppose even that sells. God help us. I bet FS knows what I am thinking!
