...I defer, Len. You are right. I think Jeff's version will quickly become the version of choice.

Yes that's a good point. I loved that earlier Lord of the Rings cartoon effort, incomplete as it was. Then I saw snippets of the Return of the King cartoon which was dire. But as you said, that cartoon pales in comparison to the Jackson versions. And hopefully we will be saying the same for the CG WotW. Although I like certain aspects of the Hines version, I think there is only so much you can do with something that could never be perfect. I tried, with my own edit of the Hines version (for my own purposes may I add, not for distribution etc.) and I gave up towards the end. I certainly made a better edit that Hines' own Directors Cut in my opinion, but I'm afraid there is too much wrong with it in the first place. For example, I had to completely remove the Thunder Child scene, as it was complete garbage. But would the ideal WotW movie have the Thunder Child scene missing? I think not.

For example, I had to completely remove the Thunder Child scene, as it was complete garbage. But would the ideal WotW movie have the Thunder Child scene missing? I think not. This is what I've been saying since the day I first saw the film. There is just too much wrong with it to make it worth the attempt to salvage it. Remove the *really* bad stuff, and that will only make the not-quite-so-bad stuff stand out. Which is why I say that if you want a period production, the little-seen Australian version is better than the Pendragon version. The Aussie version doesn't try to portray the Thunder Child scene-- it just shows still pictures with a voice-over narration describing what happens. That's a better approach than actually trying to show it but doing such a laughable and inept job that everyone hates that scene in Pendragon's film, even those who've said they like the film overall. I sent an e-mail to the contact listed for the Aussie version, asking about availability of formats (VHS/DVD, PAL/NTSC) and prices. If they respond, I'll post it on the forum.

Thanks Lensman. I would be very interested in purchasing that version for my collection (except if it is on vhs- I haven't got a vhs player anymore).

It's made by Visage Entertainment: www.visageentertainment.com/warofworlds.htmwww.visageentertainment.com/I bought mine straight from the producer, who was selling them on eBay. They're a small, totally unpretentious outfit who beaver away making low-budget musical backings for schools' use. Their tripods are based on the ones in the Discovery Channel's Great Books episode about WOTW. It's probably best just to contact them directly, by following the links on the first linked page above.

So what format did you get it in, McTodd? DVD, videotape, or what? And is the PAL videotape format called VHS, or what?
Inquiring minds want to know! ;D

PAL is the name of the Televison standard here in the UK like NTSC is in the US of A. Yes, I understand that. My question is: What do you call your PAL videotape format? Is it VHS, or is VHS an NTSC thing only?
