Just watched the "Classic" cut. There is some new stuff added, but not more than 15 or 20 seconds worth of new footage, if that much. Overall, not much to recommend it.

I read somewhere that the 'classic' is replacing the 'origianal'.

Yes, again we need to make this clear. Is this extra from the three hour original cut, or extra from the original DC (the second release)? In the DC, there was a little added footage of the journalist and the artillery man digging the tunnel and drinking wine etc. Is that the bit you are on about?

I have the 3-hour cut. This has a few new seconds of footage that was not in that. The editing on this "classic" version gives me the feeling that somebody was looking over the editor's shoulder saying, "Okay! Get on with it!" I thought I was looking at an extended trailer for the first 20 minutes. Sad as it seems, I'd rather view the original 3-hour cut. My 14-year old daughter, who is a sci-fi fan asked me for a print copy after watching the 3-hour with me. I have about 12 different copies in my library and I gave her one. She has read it a few times since then. It was the same with my fiance. If nothing else, PP's version definitely makes newbies desire to read the novel.

I could say the same thing about Spielbergs version. Despite some peoples opinions on the film, I liked it and more importantly, it drew me to purchasing the novel. And yes, if I had the choice of watching a version of Pendragon's version, I think I would watch the 3 hour one if I had the time. As you say, the DC is like watching an extended trailer- good description there.

I didn't bother with the DC, but I've now got the Classic version, and watched the first 45 mins or so. All in all, it's a mixed bag so far.
Firstly - the FX. It looks like Timbo has tackled only the minor FX and left the major ones untouched (or edited down to limit the impact). The dancing skeletons now only remain in a couple of very quick shots where they collapse to the floor. The others have had a form of distorion effect overlaid, or a big ball of 'flame' covers the whole screen to mask the effect. This works a lot better. On Horsell Common, the original clearly intercuts between shots filmed at day and night. To compensate, the 'classic' edition has applied a deep blue filter to give the day shots a nighttime effect. When the heat ray fires/flames appear, then the day shot is flashed in. As a result, this also works better. It's a shame that the same solution wasn't applied to other obvious day/night inconsistencies (eg showing Mars to the Wife). The Tripods have also had some slight touching up done - there's a couple of improved CGI, but in the main the worst shots have been trimmed down to lessen the impact of the poor FX.
So far, the FX changes are few, but do improve on the original. Unfortunately, any improvements with the FX are completely negated by the poor editing. There is some good editing applied, and certain bits do run much better. But, the majority is a quick hack about, with no thought of pace or scene flow.
I'll come back with more comments once I've watched the full thing, but I get the impression that Pendragons WOTW is still a work in progress. I suspect that Tim came into some cash - not enough to make major changes, but enough to pay for some small FX changes. Rather than wait for more money and redo the whole thing, he's patched up what he could with the money he had and re-issued it - probably with the idea that he can re-invest any profits into getting another set of FX re-done and another version issued...
In other words, I expect to see further versions of this movie issued, as with each cash injection a little bit more is 'improved' until a definitive version is completed.

Who flippin cares let's face it! I'll say this till I'm blue in the face - HGWTWOTW 'should' have been a big screen epic done with the same attention to detail and imagination that was given to LOTR. It's inexcusable that all we have is a straight to dvd mess of a film done by a bunch of amateurs!
A damn kids book - Harry Potter - has been given infinetly more respect than THE master of science fictions fantastic novel - and if any Pendragon cast or crew read this and want to put their point of view in a civilised manner then why not come on here and try and convince us that we're wrong.

Thanks for the write up Xymon.
I expect pendragon have had their pound of flesh by closing the other board down. Whatever, the whole thing is sad. I think it should just be forgotten now.

To tell the honest truth, I know longer really care what T.Hines and co. do now.
Saying that though, what ever respect I had left for them went with the old board....
