Yes, I did a little hunting around.
It seems someone on the eveofthewar.com website has solved the mystery.
A member there, TonyC, had this to say about it...
''The mysterious 3-disc set has finaly arrived at my doorstep. I didn't have very high expectations for this box-set but i was pleasently surprised by the quality and quantity of the content.
DVD 1:
Breaking News: A simulated live news account of the catastrophic invasion of our planet by Martians. [35 min.]
A good mix of old-fashioned suspense and drama. There are no special effects to speak of except for some shots of military hardware. The very last shot is the only time you see the Tripods. The main characters are two news anchors, a military analyst and three field journalists, one in Malibu, Ca., one in Woking, England, and the last in the Mojave Desert. The news crews flee from the invasion all the while reporting the destruction. The invaders use alot of Black Smoke to kill as they advance unchecked. The Russians are the first to use nukes, followed by the North Koreans and eventually the United states. The end of the report comes when the Tripods break into the news studio and kill the reporters. There alot of homages to H.G. Wells, Orsen Welles, and Byron/Pal in this piece. The acting is (mostly) quite good and it was a fairly unique and interesting segment to watch.
Bonus Material:
Miss Intergalactic 8056: An intergalactic beauty pageant featuring the wildest ladies this side of the Milky Way. [20 min.]
Hard to know how to summarize this. About 20 minutes, a funny (sometimes very much so) comic piece about an intergalactic beauty pageant. Unfortunately, the contestants are clips from old monster movies, so no booty-call for the men in the audience. But's it's a fun thing to watch.
Take us to your leader: The Pop-Culture of Sci-Fi. A look at the people who make science-fiction, and those who live the lifestyle. [35 min]
The first five minutes of this featurette are interviews with random fans outside a sci-fi convention. This quickly moves into a mini-documentary about Jeff Wayne and his work. For those who saw Jeff on the History Channel special, this is that whole interview and it is quite good.
DVD 2
Science of Mars [Documentary] A behind the scenes look at the exploration of Mars from Mariner 4 in 1965 up until today. Exclusive NASA footage and new state-of-the-art computer animations featuring new video direct from Mars. [90 min.]
Bonus Material:

Earth/Mars comparison
Mars in the Solar System
Water on Mars-2004 press conference for the Mars Exploration Rover.

I would recommend this to any WOTW fan looking for something a little different. The interview with Jeff Wayne was very well done and the unedited Wells' broadcast is another favorite of mine from this set. There is over four hours of content within the DVD's, with a good mix of comedy, suspense and documentary works.''
It sounds interesting, I don't have time to visit Eveofthewar as much as I'd like these days or I'd have known about it.
So, thanks to our friends at Eveofthewar.com for that!
