Well I feel like it's time to start my tripod again.
For anyone who wants to take a look at what my old ones looked like (so you can gauge the badness of them ), then by all means take a look here. I will point out though that that little piece ofart pure disaster ( ) was done after I'd been introduced to MAYA about...3 months before hand.
Anyway, I lost that gem and a lot of my older stuff when I got the newer MAYA version, and my old computer died. However I don't really view the tripod as a loss cause it frees me up from the old style.
Here's two renders of the new tripod I'm working on.
Since I took those I changed the feet to lessen how fat they look now. Compared with the older tripod image, the legs now are much more 'bulky' and interestingly enough, look like they actually connect to the body.
Also part way through making the legs I had a bit of something akin to a revelation. The old tripod's legs were connected solely through the use of a single polygon. This was very bad, as it meant the tripod could never walk properly - so I spent hours hammering my head on the desk wondering why. I've slightly cheated with this one, here's a screen shoot of a leg joint.
That basically repeats itself throughout the leg, a smaller sphere inside of a larger one. In a way it acts like a "joint and casing", the smaller sphere will be what makes the legs move and the larger ones will help connect it to the rest of the body, so this time it *might* (if I'm hopeful and do it well enough) walk.
That's all for now, also the tripod isn't in any sort of "pose" just yet, I've just got it standing upright cause I don't feel like moving the legs around just yet.
