This is a picture I roughed out about 15 years ago but didn’t go any further with until last weekend. i553.photobucket.com/albums/jj373/InvasionEarth/Book%20Covers%20and%20Illustrations/TheSpaceMachine-Retaliation.jpgIt’s the tripod battle scene from Christopher Priest’s The Space Machine, Where two opposing Martian factions come together for the second time. The Tripods in the foreground are small machines – only sixty feet high – The ones in the distance defending the domed city are one hundred feet high and are the machines that eventually attack Earth. If you’ve not read it, its worth hunting out.

Cool picture immediately reminded me of Nerfy's Aftermath Novel where the human are fighting the martians in there own rubbishy tripod made from old washing-up bottles and sticky tape

Cheers guys.
The book is quite old now, first published in 1976, it is a sequel to the Time Machine and a prequel to the War of the Worlds.
Mr G. thank you but please don't say anymore, I haven't got to that bit yet, ;D I only started reading Aftermath last weekend and we've just met the Nautilus, I'm about half way through.
I might have a go at depicting Nerfy's battle scene later.

Tell you more? Right ok well what happens is the humans employ the army of the blue meanies to help them out and get fitted into their own one-piece cat-suits to go down and start up an underwater allotment then find the martians are already growing their own tomato patch so they fight it out for aquatic-vegetable territorial rights when all of a sudden... I wont spoil the ending

You forgot about the giant kitty cat that attacks the post office tower near the end. Or was that The Goodies? Nice pic, LC!

Holy cow, another excellent illustration that LC has kindly shared with us so that we may, uh, experience its visual qualities and um...Hang on a sec I have to find a thesaurus.
Ok. Visual qualities and majesty and what-not.
If anyone found that amusing then good for them. If not, then be aware of the fact that this message was typed up at approximately 2:00 A.M. after drinking 6 Dr. Peppers.
Excellent picture though. I now have to find (somewhere in this god-forsaken internet of ours) a copy (legal print or otherwise) of The Space Machine.

I now have to find (somewhere in this god-forsaken internet of ours) a copy (legal print or otherwise) of The Space Machine. I've just had a look on Amazon and they have several paperback copies for as little as $5:00 and read the reviews, you'll see this book is worth hunting down.

I might have to buy the book, but I prefer hunting for a copy on the internet (as in a webpage with the story typed up on it) since I'm a bit tight on cash at the moment. No luck though, so I'll have to buy.

I listened and bought and liked the book, too! So there! Well that's one idio...Heh...Fine fellow who listened to my rantings and went and got it while it was still out there It's (in my overstuffed opinion) the best of the many "War of the Worlds) sequels out there, someone should make a film or teevee series of it! d.f.
