Well, the 're-imagining' of the classic 80's TV series 'V' has begun in the US. Apparantly the pilot has generally gotten good reviews. As usual, we in the UK won't get to see it until later (it airs here early 2010 on SCiFi). Any American members seen it yet? Here's a trailer in the meantime.

Looks good, I'll be watching out for it.
So many of the same faces show up time and time again in Sci/Fi shows.
Joel Gretsch: he was in '4400' and (Spielberg's) 'Taken'
Elizabeth Mitchell: she's from 'Lost'
Morena Baccarin: from 'Stargate SG1' and 'Firefly'
And a lot of the other actors in 'V' have appeared in other Sci/Fi series such as 'Smallville', 'Battlestar Galactica' and 'Eureka'.

Yep, they do turn up alot, in different shows, don't they? I guess they have a stable of actors they like to use. I was a big fan of the 80's version, so that's my reason for watching. Oddly Eire (Ireland) already have had this show as a premiere too, apparently. Why are we in the UK always last to see these shows... and indeed, any US movies? The French are always at the forefront for these things as well as other territories. Why are we always last? Anyone know? I'm genuinely interested to find out.

It's looking good shame no Michael Ironside or Marc Singer! Michael Ironside's character was brilliant in the first series a great anti-hero, someone who actually got things done rather than just talked about it. ;D They still haven't forgiven us for kicking then out of the British colonies back in 1783. ;D

An American you say? Well, being the Part-British, Scottish, French, German, Irish, Spanish, etc. that I am, I guess I qualify as one of those. Sure, I'll give you guys an American review, because everyone knows that those reviews are very reliable to other countries . With the exception of myself, of course. Well, the original V series came out before I existed, so I can't really compare it to the new one. But I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the first episode. I thought the plot structure was good, the special effects excellent (although in one scene, they forgot to add a shadow under an alien shuttle) and there was a tiny bit of humour thrown in (again, being the nice guy I am, a put a 'u' in humour). So the series looks promising. If the series turns out to be really good, it will probably end up like Firefly: canceled (well, that's my cynical view point that everything good and sci-fi has to be canceled mid-series). And by the way Lonesome, we kicked you guys out in 1781 at the Battle of Yorktown. I know this because I live in Yorktown and celebrate Yorktown Day. But I am humbled to hear you have a bit of my nation's history. What upsets me is that the rest of my country hardly even knows about the Battle of Yorktown, and the nation celebrates the signing of a document instead of the ultimate act of defiance against our British rulers. Nerfy, out of our friendship I'd love to convince Hollywood to let British viewers see our stuff as soon as we get to. But there are only 3 ways of doing that. 1, they'd have to divert their attentions away from their enormous egos to listen to me. 2, I'd have to bribe them ridiculous amounts of money to simply get them to glance at me; as for having a conversation, more so. 3, I threaten to nuke Hollywood. Choices 1 and 3 are favourable, but not entirely possible...yet.

It's funny you should mention the shadow under an alien shuttle, I believe I am right in saying the first time CGI was used on a TV series was when the shadow was add under the shuttle in the first series of 'V', I wonder if it was left out on purpose to pay homage to the original. And by the way Lonesome, we kicked you guys out in 1781 at the Battle of Yorktown. I know this because I live in Yorktown and celebrate Yorktown Day. Can you hear that clicking sound? ...That's just me winding you up. ;D Thanks for the review.

What do you mean by "winding you up?" Must be a British expression. It means: Teasing someone or making fun of them in a playful way.

Ah, I understand now. In my country, we often use the phrase "Pulling your leg." I'm not sure which of the two expressions make more sense. As for winding a person's leg while it's being pulled, that would just be excruciating. Might work on those self-absorbed Hollywood guys though.

Hey everyone in here across the atlantic pond. I have not posted in here for some time, sorry i have a bad habit of not keeping in touch more often in here. Anyways I saw the first 2 episodes of the new V, Liked it. Just the huge craft are not anywhere as huge as the awesome saucer originals in the orginal 2 mini-series and series back in 83-85. Wish they could have been alot bigger. They looked wicked and cool though. I like the way they turned the underneath of the ships to a huge v-screen. I have not seen that since that old old movie with John Boy in Battle of the Stars. I was hoping that it was not gonna be a only 1 hour pilot but 2-4 hours. Months ago, when i first heard about it, I got real excited and I thought it was suppose to come out in sept in the usa here. And when i watched the first episode i was like, Omg this is out of David Icke, and I kind of like that twist to it. I hope to see more episodes and yes, after reading through this and another thread about it, that it wont get cancled. And every time i look at Anna now, she has something up her reptillian sleeve, can see it in her eyes. Creepy lol.
Peace out Ed

Do you know the name of the author? I read one years ago by Ann Crispin but that was just the screenplay of the original TV series. Thanks for your review, it definitely sounds like a good one to watch out for. They have started advertising it on the SciFi channel over here in Brit-Land, but it just says coming in 2010, so we still have at least a month and a half to go.
