Some time ago I did my first attempt at motion tracking using my Daleks and the same background. It worked, but there was no shadows or lights which made it look iffy.
I've since redone the scene.
It looks MUCH better now, the Dalek in the shade looks like it's in the shade, plus the shadows give it more of a 'real' feel.

Not too bad mate, it's matched the movement quite well. A couple of points to improve it...
1. Are they supposed to be floating? Because that's what it looks like. I know nothing of how they move, so they could very well hover but I always assumed they were in contact with the ground. If they are not supposed to be floating then you need to sort out the ground plane.
2. The shadow colour is not correct, look at the left daleks shadow compared to the trees shadow that it sitting in. The daleks shadow is too darka dn two brown in colour.
3. I think you need to raise your light up more. The daleks shadows are far longer than the shadows in the footage.
4. The position of the main 'Sun' lightsource is a bit wrong. Looking at the shadows of the trees you need to swing it round the left of the shot a lot more.
4. Staying with the light, you need to use a direct/parallel light source not a spotlight. Both the dalek's shadows are going off in different directions as if the sun is literally just above the trees to the left, not millions of miles away. A parallel light source will replicate shadows you get from the sun far better. It's so far away that's it's rays are pretty much parallel to the scene.
Good work, just needs a some tweaking on the lights.
Some nice materials wouldn't go a miss either.

Cheers Mr G. 1. Are they supposed to be floating? Because that's what it looks like. I know nothing of how they move, so they could very well hover but I always assumed they were in contact with the ground. If they are not supposed to be floating then you need to sort out the ground plane. I believe the Daleks are supposed to be floating a tiny bit off the ground, but the way I exported the scene from Boujou though is where it got stuffed up. This image explains it better - I aligned the image on the plane in a way that didn't quite work out, however I couldn't be bothered going back and fixing it, but ideally I'd have it aligned perfectly flat, which is something I need to work on. I should be able to fix that. I shall do that. I noticed that earlier today actually, when I put the image sequence together it was at 1am in the morning and I hadn't seen it fully completed. I'll change the light to a parallel one in a bit, however I'm not going to try and rerender it until I get some more RAM for my computer. It took a bit over 5 hours to do it, though I could probably rerender it more efficiently, when I tried it another way I totally screwed it up.

That is bloody good!! I agree, the shadows are too brown and a bit too long. Never the less a good effort.

What's with the particles in the viewport shot? Are you going to be doing some weapon effects on top the motion tracking?

The green dots I presume? They're the tracking points that the camera is following. I'd do any weapon or other effects in After Effects, as I'd have better control over the features there.
