I also just dug out my game as well. Bloody hard. Was there ever a stategy guide for it? Kevin Not an official strategy guide, no. There have been some sites with useful info on. Richie B is our resident whizz at this game (I'm pretty dire at it, tbh) so I'm sure he'll continue answering questions about the game.

[glow=red,2,300]I found several times that despite building heaps of farms etc that my resources were always low. Then I noticed that many things have very high resource use when active and that you can over-develop a resource. IIRC holding the cursor over the resource bar can tell you whether building another farm etc is a good idea and sometimes it's better not to have too many handling machines-especially if they're active or excessive troop movements. I tend to create a double-front with troops situated in the front-line sectors and the ones imediatly after that so that if I do take a pounding I have a second line of defence or enough for a counter attack.
Rather than constantly attacking I tend to draw a line across britain to try and hold, build my defences at key positions and start improving my forces and reinforcements. Playing the martians that way a key is often getting a good lot of flying machines to deal with that pesky island sector which can't then be developed but on which I can store a massive flying fleet. I use them then to deal with ironclads along that coastline. Once I can handle that I then try and swamp one sector at a time, trying to get things in neat rows as much as possible before finally sweeping around and cirlcling the capitol... which is generally when the game crashes, though I have beaten it a half dozen times or so with the martians and two or three with the humans.
And if worst comes to worst for those who find the game too difficult, there are always the cheats.[/glow]
