Sadly, I've read a couple of awful reviews on AICN- obviously I prefer to make my own mind up, but I generally respect the writers on this site. Maybe when it turns up on freeview then. Also means I don't have to pay to see a Nic Cage movie!

I'm puzzled over the slamming of Nicolas Cage here. I think he's an excellent actor. Occasionally his performances have been over the top, but only in movies which are bad anyway-- perhaps he thinks that's the kind of performance people want to see in bad movies. I thought he was all wrong for the role of Superman, but I don't see why he wouldn't be a good fit for Ghost Rider. However, the critics are not being kind to this film. With 76 reviews surveyed, Rotten Tomatoes dot-com gives it only a 25% positive rating: www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ghost_rider/.

Band wagon methinks
I have no problem with him, and considering the reviews I'm kinda worried now. Surprised? no. Worried and dissapointed so far, yes.

Sorry folks- I'd better explain.
I actually think that Nic Cage is a good actor and has been in some great films. Unfortunately, there is something about him that REEEEAAALLY irritates me- I think a mix between his face and delivery. Which is just a personal preferance. Sadly, Jon Travolta does the same thing for me- which makes Face/Off almost unbearable- though it's clearly a great film (if a tad lengthy). I do think he tends to get a lot of roles that make him appear po'faced, humourless and up his own arse (even some of the good ones) and this doesn't help.
But there you go. Each to their own. Though I am right. Always! Mwa-ha-ha-etc

I wouldn't call "Face/Off" a great film, by a long stretch. A semi-cheezy action film, but fun if you don't take it seriously. For some really *good* John Travolta films, check out "Pulp Fiction" and "Get Shorty". For Nick Cage, "Raising Arizona" is one of my very favorite comedies, and "The Rock" is an excellent action flick! Of course he won an Oscar for "Leaving Las Vegas", but that's so much of a downer I can't recommend it for anything but the strength of his performance.
I know what you mean, tho, about actors who rub you the wrong way. I have that problem with Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart in most of their films, altho I know they're both great actors. I can't explain it either-- purely an emotional reaction, not an intellectual one.

Furry muff- but that's kind of what John Woo's known for (if mainly for his Hong Kong work). Pulp fiction is an awesome film, but I'm not really that into it- like most Tarantino, I find the dialogue a little overworked. Though I love the Kill Bill movies/ Raising Arizona is a great movie indeed. Not seen Leaving Las Vegas- though will do at some point.

I'm certainly looking forward to this movie... although I know nothing of the ghost rider character or story, I have heard some good things about it from some of my friends who live in the US, who have already seen the movie. Hopefully it'll be a bit of fun to watch.

Wow- I really like the look of this movie. However, like others I'm kinda dubious about Nic Cage playing the part- just not sure if his persona is right for the role. They should've got Dolly Parton.

Exactly my type of humour, almost up there with The Big Lebowski. Funny how you're not a fan of Stewart though - there's one transitional look he gives in 'It's a Wonderful Life' at the train station, where he finds he has to stay in Bedford Falls forever, that's enough to break your heart.
