Has anyone read it? It's an excellent novel which is a mix between fantasy, horror, and erotica. It's about a man who has a near death experience and hides away in a country house in the middle of no-where, only to find that he can now communicate with naked fairies, and be harrassed by a witch who wants to steal his seamen! Fantastic stuff, and very tense in places. I don't normally get through books unless they are short, or had a film based on them, or preferably both. But Once... is a long book for my standards that I just couldn't put down.

I'm a big fan of Herbert, but not read this one yet. Busy reading Cell by Stephen King at the mo. Very similar thread to The Stand running through it, but certainly not disappointing.

Once -It it excellent My Da passed it on to me Which was very embarrasing when I got to the "fruity" bits He's an author that tends to get overlooked Two other good reads by him are Fluke & 48 & The Magic Cottage will hit the spot if you enjoyed Once Just typing this sitting in the house on my own & a freakin picture just fell off the wall Very spooked there for a minute Can hear Vincent Price laughing

lol yes that would freak most people out. Fluke and 48 are both very good - haven't actually got around to reading The Magic Cottage though. I love his Rats trilogy too.

lol glad to hear it. Depending on where you're going in the UK, the biggest second hand book shop we have in the north is Barter Books in Alnwick, Northumberland - the place is HUGE.

Ohh I would have died & gone to heaven there No just normal sized charity shops You can get some really good selections if you are prepared to dig in & get your hands dirty Will be in the Midlands No charity shops in Republic of Ireland except VDP Not far from the border so I can use a bit of sterling Got most of my James Herbert's that way ;D
