What with Space 1999 (like other Gerry Anderson series) finding a new audience and regaining popularity, is the series due a remake? Or do you think it's best left alone? Captain Scarlet was remade in CGI. If you would like to see a remake, should they go down that route or do it again in live action. Would you mind seeing Eagles flying again if they were sent on missions by Martin Landau, or would you be ok with a new cast? I know we have a few fans of the original, so what are your thoughts?

It's probably best left alone, or at most, a new generation based on moonbase Alpha. "Space 2019"? mmmmm....

Well Space 1999 was originaly to be the follow up to U.F.O. with Moonbase Alpha and the Eagles taking the fight to the Alien's homeworld.
So it's possible Space 1999 could return, maybe as it was intended.

Martin Landau is an old boy now. He could be the new Barry Morse character.
I think if a remake is due they should call it 'Moonbase Alpha' they cant call it Space 1999 anymore because were still stuck on earth and it 2007!

To my knowledge, I think Barry Morse is still alive as well!! Personally I reckon they should leave well alone, in the same way they should leave Carpenter's "The Thing" alone - its not old enough and hasn't dated enough (except maybe for the bell-bottom flares on the suits!!). A remake by the BBC of all the Quatermass serials using present day technology would be welcome though! Or an update of "Doomwatch" maybe, focusing on present-day environmental concerns? KR

i dunno, the beeb redid a quatermass not so long back, and i wasn't mad keen. Mind you, throw enough money at it (a la Dr Who), and you never know. A new Blakes 7 would be top, though. Or that last series of the Tripods!

Space 1999 doesn't suffer as badly from looking dated as some other sci-fi series do (well, aside from the ubiquitoue beige flares and the actual name). It was done on film rather than video and the effects were well ahead of their time, all of which stopped it from looking cheap.
The biggest problem with space 1999 is that there simply isn't enough of it! Cancelled after only 2 seasons and with no resolution to the Alphans dilema, fans were left hungry for more.
The trouble is that starting again with a 3rd season taking off from the end of the 2nd wouldn't work, too much time has passed and some of the cast are no longer with us. So to do it again you would need to start from the beginning, a la battlestar galactica.
Battlestar has proved that you can resurrect an old programme and make it better than the original, but it can't be an easy thing to do, especially not when the original was so good in the first place.
Personally although I'd like more space:1999, I think it's better left as the brilliant piece of 70's sci-fi that it is. Blakes 7 though, that could benefit from a remake. It had a storyline that would've really have made use of a proper budget and some good cgi effects. The trouble is, could you ever find someone other than Paul Darrow to play Avon?

there is plans to bring back B7 as a sequal/remake. Its set 30 years on with a new crew but it set in the same (yet obviously 21century enhanced) universe timeline.

i.m.o. it should be left alone...you can't beat the original space 1999 if it were to be remade it would have to be an all new cast...a next generation sort of film...and to save on making a prequel they could show the original space 1999 which was the same idea used for the star wars prequels
