The first time I read The War of the Worlds was when I was about six or seven years old. I was pretty horrified by the martians abducting people in nets, yet I was fascinated. I didn't get nightmares from the pictures. Instead, I was hooked. Since then, I've loved horrific or disturbing sci-fi images. (And I mean sci-fi, not horror. The Mummy gave me indigestion for a month, and The Grudge gave me nightmares for a couple weeks.) I look at the martians, and I see something that's cool or adorable.
My first TWotW was the 1983 Moby Books edition. The martian pics presented below are my favorite, so could somebody PLEASE show me more of this style of martians? (Not the tripods, but the martians.)

This is one of my favorite pics that I've run across on the internet. I really like the design of the tripod standing sentinal in the background. I wish I knew who painted this because I'd love to see the tripod fleshed out and as the main subject of another picture. As it stands, this picture really communicates the horror of the Martian feeding process. I can almost feel the terror of that man as he is 'eaten alive'.

Oh man, I haven't seen that martian picture in ages! The only place I could find it was in the eveofthewar.com gallery, and that's been down for well over a year !

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone, but....I really hate the Roger Dean tripod. I'm a big fan of his artwork with ASIA, Yes and others but his tripod looks like a mechanical chicken...yep, I said a big mechanical chicken...

I agree with you there, and I too think the Tripod itself looks like a chicken and it looks WAY too mechanical.

Here are many inaccuracies I have found with his machine:
-Tentacles cannot reach the ground
-Does NOT resemble a "boiler on stilts"
-Not supposed to have hands
-The color is not supposed to be a red-orange
-There is no basket to hold humans in
