This is one of my favorite pics that I've run across on the internet. I really like the design of the tripod standing sentinal in the background. I wish I knew who painted this because I'd love to see the tripod fleshed out and as the main subject of another picture. As it stands, this picture really communicates the horror of the Martian feeding process. I can almost feel the terror of that man as he is 'eaten alive'. And here are a couple of renderings of the Roger Dean Martian. I modeled it with 3D Stuido Max 4.2 back in 2002 for my computer animation demo reel. First without textures: And again, with textures and set in an environment: You can also find my textured rendering on display at the War of the Worlds Book Cover Collection, specifically here in the Drawings and Renderings section.

Oh man, I haven't seen that martian picture in ages! The only place I could find it was in the eveofthewar.com gallery, and that's been down for well over a year !

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone, but....I really hate the Roger Dean tripod. I'm a big fan of his artwork with ASIA, Yes and others but his tripod looks like a mechanical chicken...yep, I said a big mechanical chicken...

I agree with you there, and I too think the Tripod itself looks like a chicken and it looks WAY too mechanical.
Here are many inaccuracies I have found with his machine: -Tentacles cannot reach the ground -Does NOT resemble a "boiler on stilts" -Not supposed to have hands -The color is not supposed to be a red-orange -There is no basket to hold humans in
