It's not that someone wants to pay more for the book, it's that the person selling it wants to make more money. There are people who often believe that used=cheap, and will buy a used book without checking the price for a new one. Thus, the person selling the used book makes more money.

As the NEW & SECOND-HAND are side by side on the Amazon page the buyer would have to be pretty bloody thick to go for the used one. ;D
