Well, the cover has been finalised and I must say a HUGE thanks to Rusti for his unbelievable hard work in creating the concept. I'm hugely indepted to him and owe him a load of pints when we finally meet up in the near future. So, here it is... What do you think?

Your red version was damn good too and it was a bloody hard decision to make between the two. Here's Nerf's red version...

The image part of the cover is top notch rusti (btw how come you're not 'rustiswordz' anymore?) but can i just say from a critique point of view that the mixture of 3 different type faces and 3 different font sizes isnt that pleasing and looks a little sloppy (for want of a better word) I really think you should stick to a maximum of 2 fonts for the cover for a bit of consistency. also im not too sure the mix of italics in the title work that well, the kerning and tapering of the 'M' seems to separate it from the rest of the word. Also I think the monochrome version is nicer (sorry nerfy but a slight hint of colour wouldnt go a miss if placed well and subtley, maybe just in the light glow behind the film negatives (not too sure there without trying for myself) I could go on but I dont want to make you think Im taking the piss out of your work, im really not just trying to give you a helping hand from an outsider. Hope you take this the right way. I think mainly the problem I have is the mix of far too many styles you know?

I really like the overall design! Very effective and quite eye-catching! I do agree with mrgrotey, that the fontwork looks just a bit busy. Narrowing it to one or two styles would be benefical. And perhaps a touch of colour, (I keep thinking a touch of sepia to the film layer) might look interesting as well. Though the straight monochrome approach is quite striking! Those nitpicks aside, a damn nice job by Rusti and an ace bookcover you got there, Rich!

Just to clarify, Rusti did the concept artwork, but did not create this final image due to strict deadline issues that I had to adhere to from my publisher. The publisher took his fantastic concept and created this design.

The publisher took his fantastic concept and created this design. I'm really pleased at the finished result. To be honest my final coloured version woulnt have looked as good. I'm a good conceptual artist. Thats top notch stuff. heres the concept sketch wot i did. Once again the final piece is better than i would have imagined.

Rusti, you do yourself an injustice there. Your finished result would've been as good or possibly even better, mate.

I've managed to arrange a book-signing before Christmas (a little short notice, I know!). It's happening on Fri 21st Dec 12-3pm at Borders Books, Silverlink, Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne. If any board members happen to be in the area please feel free to pop by to say hi.
