Update... Ive been on rifle making and texturing duty for the past few days, i made and normal mapped and textured his rifle from photo refs from a great site i found, tons of ref shots for this rifle (not sure if its a strictly historically accurate rifle to use but its going to pretty damn close). heres lots of pics of my past few days work Wireframe Rendered Texture sheet And heres the finished soldier in all his technicolor glory (thumbnailed due to size) 804 x 1024 Texture Sheet barring any comment from you guys that makes me see critical things ive missed or done wrong, its on to the posing/animating!

Speaking as a woodworker, I'm stunned (there's that word again!) at how realistic the woodgrain appears to be. I presume that "skin" was taken from an actual photo of a wooden object?
In fact, if it weren't for the trigger guard being "faceted" instead of rounded, I'd have thought those were actual pictures of real rifles. Well actually I *did* think it was an actual photo at first.

Beautiful looking work on both the soldier and rifle!! The texturing is marvelous! I look foward to seeing what you have in store for us. You definitely do some kick-ass stuff. A very impressive website you have as well.

lensman: wow great compliment! thanks dude! the grain is a bit blurrier (is that a word?) than i would have hoped but the texture is done with the size of image posted so it cant be stretched up too much without losing detail, im pleased though I found a great old weapons site with loads of reference pictures on to do the wood effect and the base was a plain wood grain (as below) then the bumps scratches and dirtyness is painted on over the top by hand in photoshop heres the base wood texture.. thanks for the kind words. anim8tr: well thanks alot, nice to know my work gets noticed CT: there you go cheers for the comments. nerfy: ta again Richy B: cheers matey black mirror: frak you very much!! Todd: haha! Me? NEVER!! hehe. thanks mate Thunder child: *takes breath* wow loads of replies this time!! cheers dude. Small Update: Ive now rigged him up, and just did a little fun pic making him look like a toy soldier. thought id share the shoulder movement distorts the strap on his back but im not too fussed about that as they'll never be that close in the finals anyhow. also the seams in the texturing are starting to show but again im not to bothered for what its going to end up like. comments welcome anyhow

nerfy: thanks...again CT: yeah.....ill let you do all the other pieces cheers haha poyks: thankyou a second time anim8tr: cheers matey Yet another update... just messing around seeing how well my PC can handle lots of the little critters all over the place, took the viewport performance down to a crawl :s the problem being i cant use instanced soldiers as there are all in different poses....... Kinda reminds me of those old Where's Wally(UK)/Waldo(US) books you used to get where there were loads of different things going on although there were obviously tons more going on in them I hope my attempts to cover up myself putting off building an environment are shining through here, hehe, heh :s and im still half way through changing the tripods materials from rusty to dirty and battle scarred. the trouble making it battle scarred is that the heaviest artilliary these soldiers have is a heavy metal ball that get blasted out of a cannon so not to much can be shown especially as the cannon balls are minute compared to the tripod, so im doing my best. The corrosion/dirt on the left leg looks too big and appeared to make the leg look smaller than it should but i will fix it.
