Kevin Andersons "Global Dispatches" is a great collection of the Martian's invasion seen through others eyes, including H.P.Lovecraft and Jules Verne.
Also the brilliant "The Space Machine" by Christopher Preist is a excellent mix of WOTW and The Time Machine.

This novel, published in 1996, was a tribute to the great story. An anthology of many short stories, all based around the original novel. Edited by Kevin J. Anderson, and dedicated to H.G Wells, George Pal, and Jeff Wayne.
Featuring some very original and very entertaining pieces of fiction the Novel tells the story of various famous characters from around the world, and how they encountered the Martians. These stories include characters such as Mark Twain, aiming to catch a pair of live Martians as they destroy Eastern America, and even people such as Pablo Picasso as he watches the Martians arrive in Paris, only to melt like solder Eiffel's new tower.
It's hard to get a new copy these days. I presume it is long out of print, but, there is hope. Amazon and ebay sometimes have copies in their various auctions and small shops. Keep an eye out for it, it does nothing but compliment Wells' original tale. Here is more info to help you get hold of a copy.

I think the Leuage of Gentleman (I believe that's what it's called) has a martian invasion story in Series 2.

The funny thing is that Kev's stories are the WORST in the whole collection. The guy's a hack... a rich one... but a hack all the same.

Surely neither of those can be as bad a "The Second War of the Worlds" KR

well, the one by douglas niles was kind of that... not so good, that is. the twist was odd though. instead of the martians being killed by microbes, it turns out that microbes... especially the kind that live in rotting, festering corpses... are a basic part of their biology. they thrive on it. they way they kill the martians is by dosing them with penicillin.
as for the other one, Flaming London, I'd like to give that one a try at least, the review sounded interesting. Also, The Martian War by... that dude who edited Global Dispatches... sounded interesting too.
Larry Niven wrote a book called Rainbow Mars which incorporated elements of just about every classic Mars fiction written... Tripods, Barsoom Martians, 12 fingered Martians from the Chronicles, and some others that I can't remember off of the top of my head. It was an OK book I guess... but definitely NOT up to the standards I usually expect from Niven.

I just read the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, vol. II. I love how the heat ray is depicted, absolutely true to the novel's description. What i didn't like was the first Mars scenes....that didn't make sense at all in my opinion.

[glow=red,2,300]Having read many of Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter of Mars stories I liked the begining bit though it referances a lot of stuff I haven't yet read.
Moore seems to be pushing a Lovecraftian origin for the Wellsian cephalosomatic martians though which I'm less keen on (Though I like Lovecrafts stuff).
I'm wondering what Vol III of League will be like. [/glow]
