This was possibly one of the worst films I have ever seen (OK, by contrast to Pendragon's effort it's a master piece) and I am ashamed to say I enjoyed every minute of it. I think it's because it's honest, it knows what it is and because of that I can relax and enjoy every cheesy poorly constructed nonsensical minute of it. Mind you some of the FX were quite good.
Top tip...watch this while drunk.

The Tripods look kinda short in this one. But at least they're Tripods and not giant crabs. What, no "conjoined tripods"? ;D Lensman is still waiting, ever more impatiently, for the Jeff Wayne animated movie, so we can see a *good* period adaptation of WOTW!

I'm still waiting for so much as a TV commercial, not to mention the movie itself!

Just thought I'd say hi before I posted, long time since I've been around and Eve got shut down.
I saw this travesty a couple of months ago and would love to have those couple of hours back into my life but sadly I can't. What a discrace it was IMO. At least the tripods had 3 legs in this one which was a plus.
HG must be rolling in his grave.

You didn't like it, Ant? You liked the first one though, didn't you?

Yeah, the first one wasn't too bad, i quite enjoyed it, though a recent viewing of the first one changed my mind about the film a bit. However it was much better than the second one I thought. Part with them going up to space to try and fight the mothership or something was a straight off rip of independence day.

I thought the Asylum "War of the Worlds" (first film, not sequel) was about average for its genre. Not a *good* film, but in the category of a straight-to-video movie I thought it was okay, and the FX were better than the average in that category.
David Latt came on the old WOTW board and was very upfront about it being an "el cheapo" quickie movie made to capitalize on the publicity for the Steven Spielberg film. The film was exactly what he promised, and he garnered a lot of respect from me because of his honesty! (A stark contrast with Timbo is obvious but, for most here, unnecessary.)

The Asylum version beat another *unnamed* version to my mind. Both in production values, execution and, perhaps most importantly, the lack of bullshit towards the fanbase from the makers. Anyway, I'm still waiting on a screener of the Asylum sequel so I can't comment, atm. I've given them a prod, hopefully I'll get it soon.

Got to admit, saw this and thought it was pump. I thought it started off with good intentions, but lost it's way and went totally over-the-top with it's absurdness. What I really got put off with was the constant repeating of the same effects shots- over and over and over again. They try and trick you by having a shot go backwards (the tri-pods taking off is the same shot of them landing, just reversed) or flip it horizontally, but it doesn't work. Basically, if you haven't got the budget to do it right, then you shouldn't bother. It's a shame because I actually quite liked the first one, even though it had some silly bits (like when they are walking and all of a sudden realise they are standing under a machine!), but this one takes the digestive! I won't be buying this one I'm afraid.

Hmm. No doubting it ain't as good as the first. I think WY's 'well intentioned' summary is about right. Had some good bits but the FX inside the mothership made me think of a tramp's bondage den (ripped latex, see?). C Thom is as earnest as ever but this movie lacks something. The sense of fun amidst the chaos that was in the first one is missing for a start. Dare I say it, this film is a bit po-faced. Not really what I'm used to seeing in Asylum movies. 6/10

Yes the inside of the mother ship looked a bit pathetic to me. You know somethings wrong when a tv series like Battlestar Galactica looks more convincing.
**SPOILERS AHEAD**
It was the dogfighting scenes that made me laugh. The first dogfight on Earth looked all red in places, then we see other shots of blue sky, so it didn't match up. Then, when we have the second dogfight on Mars, we have the same red sky shot again. It takes me back to when I first saw Timbo's effort. It's a shame. Oh well, we should be used to this by now.
