Dont quite know where this will fit in the grand scheme of things but I can recommend this book highly.
"The Dante Club" is set in Boston in 1865 shortly after the American Civil War.
A small group of highly respected Harvard academics are working to translate & enterprate Dante's " The Divine Comedy" with considerable condemnation & opposition from political and religious groups within Boston.
In time a series of brutal murders take place involving members of the church and the legal profession who have been the most active to prevent any publication of the Academics works.
The Academics are the only ones who are aware that the murdered individuals have suffered similar tortures to the condemned souls as described in the Divine Comedy.
The police are obviously unaware of the link to Dante, in the meantime the Academics have to consider that a member of the Dante Club could be responsible for these brutal murders.
The auther is soon to release "The Poe Shadow " which I am looking forward to ( ghoul that I am ).
Please feel free to move this to the correct section in the meantime.
