No one can be arsed even to say it sucked? Poor Asylum. Hate one can deal with. Being ignored is just plain heartbreaking.

I thought it was ok. A helluva lot better than Pendragon's... Latt's adaptation wasn't unwatchable . It just seemed to me that they put somewhat more effort into it than was necessary to cash in on the TWOTW 2005 bandwagon, but not enough to give the film any soul. Any artist posting on this forum could have topped Pendragon by simply animating gifs of their artwork with subtitles superimposed on them. Poyks' pastel images would be amazing animated with background music similar to that used in Paramount's 2005 film. Hell, he could even not animate, go the La Jetee slideshow route and still beat Pendragon.

I don't think it sucked at all. I don't know what you mean about no soul.. the story was well written and the actors were good... I'm not sure which movie Jake Busey thought he was in though. Latt's a very funny man, if you get the chance to speak to him... and is very passionate about his work (and TWoTW generally). That said, I don't think he's under any illusions as to what he does. He produces good quality low budget horror entertainment and Asylum movies do what they say on the tin. I thought it turned out pretty well.

He produces good quality low budget horror entertainment and Asylum movies do what they say on the tin. I thought it turned out pretty well. Latt did a good job of keeping major plot points intact, but the subversive subtext directed at us viewers was absent. When I said it had no soul, I meant I didn't come away with any racial/ethnic guilt or perceive any irony that the invaders were more like us than not morally. There has been no shortage of shameful conduct by my contemporaries in my lifetime, and not shoving an event or two in our faces just comes off as cowardly to me. Wells' made us victims of our own dark nature, but Latt and S.S. mostly made us victims. I realize the difficulty of translating a recounting into first-person present, but it's in no way terribly difficult. When I first posted that no one could be arsed to even say it sucked, I didn't mean to say I thought it really sucked, but that no one seemed care enough to even say that. As a B film it's solid enough. I am biased with an expectation that the whole of the story needs to be told, not just the set pieces.

Ah, I see what you mean. Mind you, a movie with a subtext (asides from how great America is, obviously)? It can't be done!

A bit late here... bit I gotta say, the Asylum version was at least watchable; a bit like a 1980's American TV-only movie. Responsibly done, unlike... that OTHER small film!
And- they didn't build irresponsible www buzz.
OK, stopping now.
