Hey guys, Just now I took another look at Asylum's site and it couldn't escape my attention that they keep trying to cash in on new Hollywood movies. Don't get me wrong here, I thought that their movie 'Worlds In War' (or H.G.Wells' War of the Worlds') was a nice effort but this is just too obvious. For instance one of their new films is called: 'I Am Omega' the story is: Mark Dacascos (The Crow) stars as the last man on Earth, who must battle the undead creatures that now control the planet. 'I Am Legend' anybody? Also 'The Invasion of the Pod People' just four words longer than a recent alien invasion film based upon 'The Invasion of the Body Snatchers'. Two future projects have been titled: 'Alien vs Hunter' and '666 The Beast'. Take a look for yourself: www.theasylum.cc/production.htmlTripod ;D

According to David Michael Latt (director of 'TWoTW' and other stuff) they are moving, over time, away from the 'schlock-horror' stuff they did before and going into thrillers, etc. To be fair, for 'cash-ins' (and maybe some of their movies are or aren't... you decide) they do very well with them for the limited budgets they have. For example, the budget for 'TWoTW' was, I believe, less than a million dollars. That is nothing in the film world these days. I have a fair few of the Asylum flicks on DVD (I was on their mailing list for screeners for a while) and I thought that what they produced reflected what was on the tin. What more can you ask for it? I liked a lot of their stuff as a fan of budget cinema. It's funny that, in a sense, companies like the Asylum have Hollywood, with their overblown budgets and over-preened stars over a barrel. Don't get me wrong, I'll catch the summer blockbusters... but it's great to see smaller companies taking these stories and adding their own spin on it. In Asylum's case, it's rarely (imo) a wasted 90 minutes or so, so you can't call them for it. You get entertained... and that's what it is all about, surely. On another note, Asylum are giving work to previously well-known actors that have been pretty much discarded by hollywood. It's all fair enough to me.

Well, Asylum has been known to make movies simply to cash-in on big budget Hollywood releases.
