Hammer Films are really on a roll. I loved their adaption of Let the right one in and they've done it again with The Woman in Black. They made it look effortless in the way that they really captured the essence of an old school gothic ghost story.
Daniel Radcliffe has matured tremendously as an actor. The boy is long gone. Ciaran Hinds and the rest of the supporting cast are first rate too.
It has a wonderful gradual rise in the tension, starting out as a little creepy and becoming downright scary. I thought in fact that it was a little too scary to be a 12a. There were some young kids in the audience and many of them were utterly terrified.
The film is beautifully shot, utterly capturing the feel of the era. It at times uses some cliched shocks, but it uses them to good effect and is in keeping with traditional style of the film.
All in all a cracking film. 4.5 out of 5.
