On the 29th of February we're starting a science fiction series starring you. If you're a fan of the 1935 War of the worlds radio show you might like the concept here. We create the weekly events surrounding the biggest event in human history and everyday people make a fake video blog documenting their reaction to the events around them. You can even do an audio blog or fake podcast
On January 1st 2000, zero hundred hours GMT, Radio telescopes through out the world finally heard something they were waiting for, 12 regular pulses from beyond the solar system. though the impact of it would not be fully appreciated for a decade. And whilst excitement ran rampart through NASA and SETI circles, it was agreed to approach the signal with care and skepticism. A year went by without incident and the event was all but forgotten, when at precisely zero hundred hours on February 1st, 2002, the same pulses were heard again, only this time the number was 11. And so it progressed over the years, March, 2003, 10 pulses, May 2004, 9 pulses, and so on.
It was a countdown. But a countdown to what? The United Nations security council became more and more concerned with the ramifications of the signal, and classified the event as "Above Top Secret"
The date was December 31st, just one minute to Zero hundred hours, GMT. The final pulse was to be expected. Observatories and listening posts throughout the globe waited in pensive silence for the what they would expect to be the final signal. Then as the clock struck the midnight hour, the pulse was heard again. But it was not a single pulse as expected. It was a repetitive pattern, over and over again. But there was more. The pulses were getting closer together, as if the signal was moving, closer, to Earth.
It was also becoming more powerful, to the point that soon, every communication device would pick up the signal. The UN had to react before a panic ensued, and the announcement was made that a signal of unknown origin had indeed been intercepted.
And here you stand, in the midst of the most important moment in human history. The potential of alien contact. Who are you in this new world? A believer? A Skeptic? A conspirator? The future of this new world rests in your hands. Where will you stand, Underneath the alien sky?
