Anyone watch Sexy Beast on C4 Film last night? It's an absolutely brilliant Brit gangster film with not a lot of action but a helluva lot of suspense and build up. Ben Kingsley's Don character is an all time favourite villain for me "Do the job". Class.
Here's a classic monologue...
Don: Shut up, c*nt. You louse. You got some f*ckin' neck ain't you. Retired? F*ck off, you're revolting. Look at your suntan, it's leather, it's like leather man, your skin. We could make a f*cking suitcase out of you. Like a crocodile, fat crocodile, fat bastard. You look like f*cking Idi Amin, you know what I mean? Stay here? You should be ashamed of yourself. Who do you think you are? King of the castle? C*ck of the walk?

I own this film on DVD, it is great. I love the bit when Don winds himself up in the mirror and then storms the bedroom. Hilarious.
I bought this when I bought another great Brit gangster film - Gangster No. 1. Paul Bettany is brilliant in it.

That is a great bit where he's talking to himself in the mirror while he shaves - very sinister.
Gangster No.1 is another great gangster flick too. Paul Bettany is a bloody good actor.

I love this film, and own it on dvd too. However, why the title 'Sexy Beast'? I could never understand that.

I don't think it really means anything.
A reviewer on IMDB suggests that it is a title designed to grab the attention. Which is probably a fair point.
Apparently, Anthony Hopkins was considered for the role of 'Don'! I'm not sure that (even with Hannibal Lecter under his belt) he could have shown the same psychotic menace that Kingsley does.

Not seen this- but reminds me, for quotable gangster films of Snatch. "Do you know what nemesis means?"

Sexy Beast is nothing like Snatch, being a lot more of a drama/thriller than comedy. There are some funny quotes in Sexy Beast, but the tone is very different. As for Anthony Hopkins, I personally think Ben Kingsley was made for the part. What seems a little ironic in the film, is that he is the most terrifying character in it, yet the smallest in stature. This is a testament to his acting abilities.

I agree - Hopkins would NOT have worked at all. Kingsley was definitely BORN to play it. Crazy when you think that he also played Ghandi!

Could you imagine Ghandi in Sexy Beast? I don't think he'd have the same effect some how.
