Here's a list of 10 massive movie projects that ended up getting dumped before production. There's a few that I'd never heard of. But one that isn't on the list is The Thing 2 - it's an absolute travisty that that hasn't been made yet. www.cracked.com/index.php?name=News&sid=2304

Hmm. I can take or leave the majority of those but I'd love to have seen Halo. And PJ won't be doing 'The Hobbit'? Noooooooooooooooooo! Actually, easily the best thing on that site was this image... Hubba and, indeed, hubba! Anyone know whjere I can get a bigger one? (Image, that is )

As for Thing 2, I'm torn. For it to be ANY good, they'd have to get Carpenter back on board at the very least. And not make it shit. That would be nice.

Well yes Carpenter has been wanting to get it off the ground for years. He'd have to be heavily involved otherwise you're right it would run the risk of being pants and I don't think I could cope with that!
And yes hubba hubba!

Rendezvous with Rama...!!! OMG that would have been magnificent, especially with Fincher at the helm! As for Thing 2 ... well maybe if Carpenter directed it and was given a decent budget to do so, otherwise forget it - any 'sequel' would only be a half-arsed remake that would only serve to spoil the memory of the original classic... Not sure I agree with that website's view of Unbreakable though. I thought it was a clever film and wasn't bored by it at all. Neither did it need a sequel - that was the point, it was all about supermen that were merely super by being a bit better than the average human - no flaming torches or walking on ceilings here It might not have been Shyamalan's best, but miles better than the p*ss poor "I wrote the plot on the back of a postage stamp during my dump break" excuse for a film that was Lady In The Water KR

Holy mackrel! Wow! All bow your unworthy heads!
KR, I agree about Unbreakable - I thought it was a good film too and was a very interesting and different view on the superhero genre. A sequel would have been good, but yes, it didn't need one.

'Night Skies' a follow-up to Spielberg's 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' which was supposed to be directed by a newcomer and produced by Spielberg. The story was about a family which was being terrorised by a band of aliens. Which at first tried to communicate with the cattle but then got interested in Humans. One of them would be a friendly creature which would become friends with the family's authistic son.
The project eventually evolved into three different movies: 'E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial' (1982), 'Poltergeist' (1982) and 'Gremlins' (1984).
