Jake's rant...brilliant! - "I ran out of gas. I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake! A terrible flood! Locusts! It wasn't my fault, I swear to god!"
And the all time classic of course...
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses."

"It wasn't lies, it was just... bullsh*t"
"I hate Illinois Nazis"
Sh****t (just the way Aretha says it)
(Just don't mention BB2000, despite the guest musicians !)

"Just don't mention BB2000, despite the guest musicians !"
Unspoken rule #1
Never. It just isn't right. If John Belushi isn't in it, it AIN'T The Blues Brothers
End of story (but not of topic)

my mom is a musician and I can remember her telling me stories about bars just like the "rawhide" bar in the film. Yikes.....

I'm a Trumpet Player myself, and am incredibly awed by Alan Rubin, and his amazing, (seemingly) effortless range and ease

Well, y'all have already mentioned the two great, memorable lines from the movie ("...and we're wearing sunglasses.", "No ma'am. We're musicians."), plus a few more. But you left out "We're on a mission from God." I'll *never* be able to watch any SWAT-team sequence in any movie with a straight face again... I'll always think of the "Blues Brothers" HutHutHutHutHut! sequence! There are so many wonderful things in this movie, from the nun hitting the brothers on the knuckles as they curse; to the "You Better Think!" ensemble dance number in the diner; to the "Rawhide" sequence; to Belushi pulling down his sunglasses and instantly melting the homicidal Carrie Fisher's heart with his baby blue eyes; to a car falling from the world's highest freeway off-ramp. (I didn't realize they built them two miles high!) ;D Yah, definitely one of my very favorite comedies.
