You know, I've had a thing for Christina Ricci since she was in 'Sleepy Hollow'. In fact, anyone who knows me will know this anyway. 
In this film, she and Samuel L Jackson both offer powerhouse performances in a strange little tale of love and redemption. Redemption for both of the leads.
Christina is a woman who's man (Justin Timberlake) goes off to join the army. She copes by becoming... for want of a better word... a slut.
One night she is beaten by a lover and she is found by Sam, who decides that it is his mission to save her from herself. Whether she likes it or not. All to a blues soundtrack.
I dare you not to fall helplessly in love with Christina as this movie plays. God knows I did. But perhaps that's just me...
Anyway, it's an unusual, moving little film and one to look out for.
