Hey guys!
It has been quite a while since I last visited this forum, but it's always nice to return to all the lads over here. When I visited this part of forum I saw that it was going dead a bit, so I started this thread. Now to get back on topic: what's your favorite scene from Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds? Please, this topic is not meant to bash the film. And I invite all those who didn't like the film to tell what piece they DID like.

Great to see you back Tripod Anyway i really like the encroching thunderstorm and the music which so perfectly goes along with it, the tension it builds is (imo of course) nerve wracking and it just bulids from there on. Great movie i love it. D.F.

The part in the cellar with Ogilvy & Rachael always gets to me, because being a Dad & having a Daughter almost as old as Rachael tends to make me empathies with Ray, & it makes you think 'what if i was in Rays shoes - what would i do'? I also enjoy seeing the lead up to the Ferry scene, when the Machines appear on the hillside, bellowing out their 'Ulla's' and picking up people with their tentacles

I liked the Ferry scene when Rachael, Ray and Robbie were making their way onto the ferry and Rachael grabs Ray's hand and they all look around to see a tripod standing on the hill on the horizon.

Nice to see everyone again, my favorite scene has to be the hilltop battle. Starting with the clothes falling down on the family just after the ferry-scene, it's a great visual. Also the explosion behind the hilltop against that very dark unnatural sky is just awesome. Then there's the seperation of the family which contrasts really good against the things happening around them. It's has almost been two years since it was released and I still love this film.

The hilltop battle does it for me with the fighters and AH64s thundering overhead - awesome sight.

The first scene when the tripod comes out from under the street, the tripod at the hill top, in the ferry scene. in the basement when one of the Alien got mad at the bicycle that almost fell on it. and in the basket, there was 2 womens side by side, and one of them screemed, and it looked, and sounds so real.[/i]

my favorite scene was when the tripod came out of the ground and was just standing there, and everybody was watching it in awe. then it made that horrible frightening sound. that was a very good scene. the rest of the movie went south quickly from there.

Yes, that is an awesome scene - it just hovers there for a few terrifying seconds.

Fav scene has got to be the tripod coming out of ground, fabulous special effects going on there. Fav Sound effect: the heat ray sound - i do like new sounds, this was as pleasing as Jango Fetts asteroid bombs in Clones (never get the same awesome effect at home though great original sound. Fav dialogue: [humous scene] "I meant order food!" Most dissapointing thing: the design of the tripods legs/feet, didnt like them at all reminded me of gilbert haha

For me it was the few seconds of footage right after the ferry scene. The one with three or four tripods on the hills, nixing folks like gnats on a bug zapper. A very effective and unsettling long shot.

Yes that's a great scene too - the sounds are distant and muffled and combined with the lighting it looks like some alien landscape.

I thought the tripods were excellent. I know the film has its flaws, but the tripods were very good imo.
