I love the scene where the tripod first emerges and starts powderising people- really captures the whole fleeing from the heat-ray on the common scene- with Ray just escaping each time as though it were hunting him down specifically.
Also, when they are in the cellar and the plane is shot down- first few times watching that it was quite creepy- it's what you don't see...
The burning train was a good moment.

The lighting, altho i did'nt put it that way in my book, i put it the way of HG Wells, When the tripod immerge, and when the first tripod coming up on the mountain, where the ferry was. About the ferry all the lights where on in the town, and ferry, loud music coming from the speakers, i would make no sound and put no light there, if this was a true story, never!!!! ;D

None of it.Another alien invasion concept film like hundreds before it and had very little in common with a book ive read by HG Wells.Chopped and bastardised beyond belief.Calling it 'The war of the worlds' was like re-naming Star Wars U571.I was glad it was crap so it didn't steal any limelight from the REAL story. The only thing that 'bag of Sh"*te' had was indeed very good special effects.........but then any film would with 200 mill blown on it.Remember,we are dealing with very intelligent interplanetary creatures here and i dont believe for one minute that they took a wrong turn and landed in yank land. Its set in England and thats all there is to it spielberg.Apparently spielberg is doing a remake of Saving private ryan but its set on the moon with hanks and his men having ray guns and they come ashore from 'the sea of tranquillity' with a space dog they found on Jupiter called Dakota.Should be just as good as the original,Pants Pants Pants and more cheesy pants
