www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EbsrJuAoQoFull film in parts here, like Threads it scared me and saddened me. Brilliant soundtrack by Bowie, Genesis, Pink floyd and Roger waters. I always said there should be a list of films that all school children should be made to watch. Downfall, Midnight express, 1984, Killing Fields, Threads and this one.

We showed "Threads" for the Laser Rangers, my movie buff/ home theatre group, in conjunction with "Fail-Safe", for a theme entitled "Nuke 'em Till They Glow". "Threads" certainly is much better than the similarly-themed "The Day After", which is an American TV drama showing the aftermath of a major nuclear strike here. That has some local interest because the main story is centered in Lawrence, Kansas, which is very near to Kansas City where I live, and they did show a couple of shots of a devastated Kansas City.
However, "Threads" is much more realistic in showing the ongoing fall of civilization over time. "The Day After" ended shortly after the strike, and rather glossed over the grim reality of the aftermath. The worst thing they showed regarding the survivors was farmers complaining that there was no realistic way to, as advised, "scrape off the top few inches of topsoil" to eliminate the hazard of fallout contaminating food crops.
In reality, most people would starve to death, as "Threads" accurately showed.

And 'The Day After' had Steve Guttenberg in it. 'Mahonnneeeeyyy!!' No. 'TDA' was ok but 'Threads' was the scary shit.
