Did anyone else see the first episode of Tin Man on Sci-Fi on Sunday?
It's a re-imagining of the Wizard of Oz with a young woman returning to the OZ (Outer Zone) to find the Emerald City decaying and vice ridden and a homicidal sorceress ruling with an iron fist.
There's some great touches with the Tin Man being slang for a cop, so he's a human cop who is lacking heart, the lion is a mystic and the scarecrow was an enemy of the sorceress who had half of his brain removed. Richard Dreyfuss has a nice little cameo as the old wizard who is now a drug addict performing cheap stage shows. There's also robots (including nurchure units...), the flying monkeys that strout out of the tattoos on the sorceresses chest (and a nice chest it is too!) and many other things.
Overall was very impressed with the first episode and looking forward to the next one this Sunday.

I watched part of the mini-series. I simply love the Oz series, and have read all 14 of Baum's books, and many of Ruth Plumly Thompson's too.
I'll give them points for at least trying to do something fresh and original; this was not just another of the stunningly awful made-for-the-Sci-Fi-Channel movies.
However, I found the story uninvolving, and the characters far less interesting than the "grotesques" found in the real Oz books. I lost interest and switched channels.
