Shit Really sad to read that, he did more good for the world of SFX than lucas and his obession with feckkin CGI ever did or will.

This is really sad news, and do you know what saddens me just as much is that the mainstream media is hardly reporting his death, instead reporting latest rehab happenings with Amy 'crackhead' Winehouse. He is one of the greats in the movie business and will certainly be missed. It's harder to rest now, knowing his talent will no longer be behind upcoming movies.
RIP Stan Winston.

Damn... One of Hollywood's true pioneers and special FX masters is gone. RIP Stan. To call you a legend seems a bit understated.

This is very sad news- the death of a true artist and a loss to the real world models that are sadly overshadowed by CGI too often these days.

One of the last of a dying breed. FX masters like Stan Winston, Phil Tippet, and Rob Bottin could make things out of latex two decades ago that would blow the doors off of the majority of CGI used today. I would rather spend a minute seeing the "Spider Head" or just about any other FX scene from John Carpenter's "The Thing" than something like the CGI whorefest from Peter Jackson's "King Kong".
