Hello you.
Let's clear up a few things first, and this is addressed to those who have actually seen any of the previous versions (those who haven't can either shut the clunge up or get a copy): we all have our opininos on what is/was essentially wrong with the original cut. This means that you won't find me attacking them for the sake of it. Honest.
Having watched from the beginning to the point where those skeletons danced so vividly in the original version, the changes are:
1. Walking. A lot of walking has been chopped out. There are still some scenes of strolling through the lovely "Woking countryside" and unfortunately attention is rather drawn to them as the cuts are very sudden - like they were cut after a set amount of time with no regard to the pace of that particular scene.
2. Music. I have previously quiet harshly critisized the music and I feel I need to address my previous critique. The score for the film is good. It's very good, actually and I can now appreciate it without getting snobby about how the actual music is presented. What my problem is with the music (and this is what lead me to dislike it originally) is that unless I've fallen asleep at some point it is used constantly throughout the film, kind of like a random loop in a shopping centre. It turns it into wallpaper when it should be used for mood and punctuation.
3. Scene cuts. See walking.
4. The Heat Ray / FX. There has been some work on the FX. Now, don't get too excited but what work has been done looks to me (yes, I said 'too *me*) like they were put over the top to cover up the dodgy effects of the original cut. A case in point are the bits where the heat ray hit the people and they ended up as 'dancing skeletons' (thanks Blackmoon). You know the blur effect in Adobe photoshop where it makes a picture look like you are looking at it through water? Well that's what it's like. Oh yes, and right at the bit where the skeletons would 'dance', the scene suddenly cuts (see walking).
part two to follow...
oh, you want a spoiler? Yes, the Thunderchild still sails 'sideways'.
Happy now?
