Well, anyone else secretly hoping there might have been some form of announcement [ no matter how small ] about this film? 2008 and nothing. I can't believe how long we've been talking about this and the other films on here but I have serious doubts we'll ever see a decent period adaptation of the book now.

You know, I started doing a long reply about this but, frankly, I can't be arsed. I did one on Jeff's site. I'll refer you to that and the previous answers to this same question I've done until such time as they actually tell me something else I can post.

Maybe in another 50 years we'll see it.

Well, we have been seeing this movie in production for something like 3 or 4 years now and still nothing. Possibly due to all of the War of the Worlds hoopla has died down especially after the much anticipated but big budget flop released by Spielberg? The movie looked to have been in full swing at one point and linked to Sony but then, nothing. At this juncture is it still marketable since a CGI version would have a niche audience?

You're from Richmond Czar? I'm in Yorktown. Small world... And welcome to the forum too.

Welcome Czar. Jeff keeps telling me that this movie is still going to be made. I have to admit, though, I'm getting a bit sceptical as well. I doubt anything will happen until after the 2009 tour is over at least.

Thanks for the Welcome mat!
I guess my own puzzlement is the fact that the CGI movie's conception art and production seemed to have been well along in 2005 and marketed along with the special edition 1978 music re-release tie-ins... and felt like it would be finished and released in 2006-2007 if not the 30th anniversary 2008?
Why was this project being feverously worked on and marketed for release soon after the Spielberg flop but then Jeff's interest did a 180 degree? How much more could there be left to do unless it got no further than a few CGI test examples?

What a lot of people don't realise is that, despite the popularity of the musical, JWM is very much a small family business. Sure, they handle big advertising campaigns and such, but a lot of the work is done by contracted composers, performers and so on. The immense popularity of the live Tours has meant that the film has had to take a back seat until Jeff has the time to devote to it. He wants to oversee it himself. I know, though, that the planning goes on for the film. It's just unlikely that we'll see it for some time.

Such a shame because good intentions are seldom followed through. Time goes on, interest wanes, and projects get shelved.

I thought we could have faith in Jeff Wayne but at this moment in time I can't help thinking we've all been strung along and it doesn't look like I'm the only one who thinks that after reading posts on the IMDB.
