If there was ever a painting depicting a part of the story left out of the booklet in Jeff Wayne's musical version, what do you think it would be - or put it another way, what painting would you've liked to have seen in the booklet? Mine would've been the cylinder on the house and/or the first appearance of the Handling Machine......

I always thought that the ruined house was shown in the red weed picture. It's just that the cylinder isn't there.....maybe the martians used it as raw material for their machines.

Me neither. That's just a pic of the red weed taking hold in a village to me.

Good theory Reppu, but I don't think you're right. As Nerf says its just the Red Weed taking hold of a smashed village - nice thought though!

Gotta love threads back from the dead That red weed image always reminded me of my all time favourite bedtime story when I was a kid 'The Magic Porridge Pot' where it kept overflowing and eventually completely flooded the town with porridge so it was flowing through the streets. and OMG i just had one of those GIGANTIC nostalgic moments when looking for the cover of this book, this is the exact same cover of the book i had. man i want to buy this book again if i ever have sprogs of my own. I think I made my mum read that book to me about 1000 times it was soo good boy do i feel old right now, and im only 26 The scene i would love to have seen is Thunderchild blasting the first tripod to pieces mwahahaaaa!

Hmm, there's something about your idea for a missing painting that sounds familiar

heh i realise there already is a thunderchild painting but it a failure image (for the human side) rather than the victory image id would have like to have seen when they destroy the first tripod
