This is a song that I wrote around six years ago, and there's an incredible story behind it that was kind of life changing to me in later days.
It's a song that was always going to be on the first Paperhouse album and was sung by my singer Rachel.
It was never really supposed to be about anyone or anything in particular, just a track to convey some strong emotions that I always love converting to music.
A short while after producing the finished album version of the song, Rach told me about one of her close friends who had been diagnosed with cancer.
This girl had a family of her own, and had been told that she only had six months to live. Rach, her friend and both families spent lots of time travelling abroad and seeing beautiful parts of the world.
The girl lived for quite a few months longer than the six months but inevitably did sadly pass away in the end.
Rachel told me that her friend kept going because she listened to this song over and over and it gave her so much hope and love for life.
I'll never forget when Rach told me this, and later on I just broke down in tears. I'm actually in tears again remembering this, it is the strangest feeling in the world.
God, it makes you feel so responsible about what you do when it comes to music. We strive to make a business out of our art, and then by accident or otherwise the music becomes a part of so many lives.
I have no ego about what the song did for this girl, that would be disgusting and a violation of all I believe, but it's a thing I need to always remember. Stuff the money and the need to be listened to, music made a difference, it is so very important.
If you want to hear the track, go here and find the track on the Paperhouse album.
