Nice work! I can't really help with small details, as I'm not especially knowlegable about late 19th-century British naval boats , but what I see is fantastic. Wonderfully crafted.

Wow! that is looking good!
Here are a couple of passages from the good book:
About a couple of miles out lay an ironclad, very low in the water, almost, to my brother's perception, like a waterlogged ship. This was the ram THUNDER CHILD. It was the only warship in sight.
Big iron upper works rose out of this headlong structure, and from that twin funnels projected and spat a smoking blast shot with fire. It was the torpedo ram, THUNDER CHILD, steaming headlong, coming to the rescue of the threatened shipping.
So I think your ship needs to be a bit lower in the water and needs only 2 funnels.

I had to do this even though it was unfinished just for the fun of it. And yes the Chimneys do need moving but hey, gives you an idea of scale

I like the way the ship is facing the Tripod, and the background adds a nice effect to the scene. The Tripod itself is amazing. Can't wait to see more!

A couple more tips. If I were you, I would have a flat deck for the bow section instead of the sharp incline. Also, The bow itself would look better straight up instead of the sickle shape here. The Thunder Child doesn't necessarily have to be like that, but it would look more 1890's-ish that way. On the plus side, there's nothing else I would change with this.
If you make the above changes, you'll get the coveted "Relyt's Naval Seal of Approval!" If you've never heard of it, that's okay. I just made it up about 52 seconds ago.

Looking good. In the last picture the upper works look as though they are made of wood, in the previous picture they looked like grey painted metal. I think the metal one would be more accurate.

Hmm. What does it allow you to design? If it allows you to design creatures, esppecially humans, I might consider using it myself. And, once again, the Thunder Child design is awesome.

Anything any other 3D art program will allow you to. It's an all rounder, modeler, renderer, animator, character animator and has a plethora of plugins and external render's for more polished result. Thankfully the internal render gives me the mood I am looking for.

Here's brief introduction to the opening scene in "The Harvest". I hope it catches the mood for you. The Martian in this opening is the spiritual leader of the Martian Triumvid Council, who has his reservations about the invasion.
The war prologue: harvest
On a near barren martian wasteland, life struggles to survive. The few surviving lifeforms cling to the rock and suburban dwellings. Red dust clouds ravage the horizon, and here and there patches of the red weed can be seen clinging to the few spots of the landscape that carries water. A martian tripod scout overlooks the horizon, then crouches down as if it has seen something of interest. It's tentacles writhe and stretch out, reaching inside the crevice of a rock race, to pull out a screaming humanoid like creature and throw's it into it's metallic basket. The scout pauses for a moment to look skyward. A flying machine catches it's interest as it flies over head. The Scout howls in salute 'aloo aloo' and the flying machine continues northward, passing over rocks, mountains and vast canyons to come to a majestic, but decaying metropolis. The last Martian city. It's very metallic infrastructure meshed almost seamlessly into the towering mountains surrounding it, protecting it from the harsh environment beyond it's walls.
From within what can only be described as the palace, a lone Martian floats, overlooking the city below. He watches as the flying machine approaches, then shines a green laser like light on the Martian. The Martian's eyes frown in curiosity then blink in disappointment as it reads the influx of information being transferred to it's mind at computer speed. The light then pulls away and the Martian flicks one of his tentacles as if to dismiss the flyer. As it turns it's back on the city below, the look on the Martian's face can only be described as desperate disappointment as it makes way toward the elder's chambers.
