Has anyone heard from the likes of people such as Luperis, Lensman, steann, or even others that I've forgotten to mention of late? Anyone know how they are or what they're up to? I guess many just got busy, unless some (somehow) got their internet rights taken away.

Hello! I remembered I hadn't been on the site for a while, came here, and saw this! Didn't realise I'd been missed, to be honest. I feel loved.<3 I've been spending most of my time recently making costumes (a hobby I got into a couple of years ago), and sorting out my art portfolio and applying to SFX/creature costume-making courses so have not been using the internet as much as I used to.... so have been neglecting coming here. I'm guessing it'll be a similar story with the others who aren't around much any more.... that they've been doing something else that has been using up most of their time and have just forgotten to come to the site for a while.

Lovely of you to pop in again then, Lupes! Sounds like you've got a lot going on. You'll have to post up some of your costumes.

Thanks guys. Most of my costumes so far have basically been 'cosplay' ones... as it's an excellent way to get both construction and performance experience. I've been making them (mainly mascot costumes) as practice for the course I'll be doing from this September... 'Character Creation and Technical Effects' - which contains elements of special effects, character design, professional creature costume making, animatronics, etc. Some of what I've made so far can be found here: www.cosplayisland.co.uk/costume/list/RefiraI'm currently working on one not mentioned on that site that will hopefully have animatronics in it (if I can get them to work! ), and have a few interesting project ideas I'd love to get working on soon, so hopefully I'll have some more to show in the near future.

Excellent work! It must get hot in those costumes, Hopefully one day you'll do your own Martian design as a costume. I have a Facebook friend who is also into cosplay, Rex Kennedy, her costumes are an Alien called Alice and a female Predator and Spyro the dragon. she is also on the Cosplay Island site. Small world ;D Look forward to seeing your animatronics.

Thank you Lonesome crow and richardburton. ^^ Lonesome crow - It does get very hot, and it is especially noticable when you first wear a costume. However, you do start to get used to the heat after a while... and it eventually kind of of screws up your whole perception of temperature in general too... I've now got a much higher heat tolerance than I used to have so can wear the costumes for much longer periods of time than when I started. I do have a plan for something WotW-related that I'd love to make... I've just been holding off on making it until I have the facilities and experience to do it justice. I looked up your friends costumes on Cosplay Island - they are amazing. I'll have to keep a look out and see if I see her at any of the conventions I go to in the future.

Those are nice costumes, I like the Mew one. It inspires me to go and beat someone wearing such a thing up and throw pokeballs at them.

Come on Commandingtripod, given the chance you would go dressed up as a Dalek. made from Fun Fur. ;D Luperis, your Death the kid outfit, can you just buy contact lenses off the shelf like that or do you get them specially made?

Those are nice costumes, I like the Mew one. It inspires me to go and beat someone wearing such a thing up and throw pokeballs at them. That's why some of us are also brown belts in Karate. So we can look after ourselves. Seriously, though, those of us who make these costumes cannot and will not retaliate when attacked for many reasons - and being targeted, verbally or physically, by someone is always a risk. A scary couple actually did kind of attack me when I was wearing that costume... I was staying in a hotel opposite the venue of the convention, and was going back to the hotel to get changed after the costume contest when they both walked over to me. The man grabbed the tail of the costume and one of my arms, and the woman grabbed me by the shoulders and started shaking me yelling something over and over, I can't remember what. Luckily one of the hotel staff who knew me came over and rescued me so I could get away. They were both quite tall and strongly built, and I'm short, so I guess I looked like an easy target to them. It was rather scary and almost put me off of ever cosplaying again. It's never happened to me again, and I trust that it is a rare occurance as most people are awesome and wouldn't dream of doing such a thing, but I still try to recruit a friend to go with me whenever I go out in costume who can help me quickly escape from random scary people if any ever show up. Come on Commandingtripod, given the chance you would go dressed up as a Dalek. made from Fun Fur. ;D Luperis, your Death the kid outfit, can you just buy contact lenses off the shelf like that or do you get them specially made? Hehe... I'd love to see a dalek made of fun fur. ;D The contact lenses were custom made for me by someone who makes them for movies and TV - they are normally quite expensive to have made (from £100-£250, depending on colours and detail; and they last for 1-2 years), but my optician knew the guy who made them and got me a good deal. They took a while to get used to (I'd never worn contacts before as I don't need to wear them - they are plano lenses), but were great fun to own... I've used them at parties, etc. as werewolf eyes also. You can buy pre-made coloured lenses from some opticians in colours like solid red, yellow, black, etc and various popular patterns like cat eyes and smiley faces which don't need to be specially made so are much cheaper. I know Vision Express can get them, and I'm sure other opticians can get something similar. I've never bought any of these, but I saw all the leaflets for them when I was ordering mine and there were some cool patterns in there.

I'm a Dental technician and occasionally we get requests for Vampire or werewolf fangs that fit over the clients natural teeth, a couple of years ago one of our dentists asked for a set for himself, we made him a set and sent them off. Next morning we received a phone call from him, his voice was a little muffled and a bit panicky. He had tried the teeth in and they fitted perfectly, went home with a good solid click, then he tried to remove them and they wouldn't budge. He said "iff goff paffantffs in hafff an hourff, waffl Iff doff?" which we translated into "I've got Patients in half an hour! what do I do?!" Eventually he managed to get them out and he did see the funny side of it. ;D

It's good he got them out... although it's interesting to think how his patients would have reacted to seeing the fangs. ;D I have to admit I've never invested in those before as I was scared that they would get stuck. Glad to hear I wasn't being completely paranoid. I may get myself a pair eventually... I've seen them and they're very impressive-looking (hate to think how much they cost, though). I have quite noticeable canine teeth anyway which are fine for basic Halloween werewolf stuff so I'll wait until I have more money and a really justifiable need for them. ;D
