OK this is the thread for all things Alien Prequel. Rumour control here are the facts: The Prequel is set around 30-100 years before the events in Alien. It deals with humanity in their early stages of space exploration. Instead of hundreds of worlds humanity has only colonised a handful. No Siggy Weaver. The Alien is rumoured not to appear until the end of the movies. It deals with the Space Jockey race from Alien, their homeworld and how the ship came to crash on the planet in Alien. The film is meant to be very dark, very nasty, 'dark side of the moon' as Scott put it. Scott sees the Space Jockey as a Space suit for another creature underneath. There are two movies. Scott is directing. The Brokeback Alien leaked script is NOT the script being used. The film also deals with the ideas of colonisation and terroforming: Gods and Engineers as Scott put it. Both films are being filmed back to back at Shepperton studios where Alien was made this year. 2011-2012 release dates for both films. More as i find it. ;D Ambrosia for my sci-fi heart

No, Fox! Scott knows how to handle the film! I hate it when big companies interfere with directors' movies.

I thought the reason they got Scott back was so he can make a decent job of it.

When it all goes well they like to rake in all the cash and when it all goes tits-up they can blame the Director. Trouble is, with a franchise like Alien the fans remember the last film out of the 'Hollywood machine' and are hesitant about going to the next one, so by cutting corners today they are only screwing-up their tomorrows.

Thats pretty much it isnt it. Scott will be blamed if the franchise is ballsed up. Scott wants to make a movie like Alien that will be remembered for a long time. Fox just wants a quick popcorn chewer using the Alien name to attract punters.

Ok here is the latest update:
After recent Twitter speculation as to the films supposed title Alien Paradise, 20the Cent Fox has come out on the offensive and debunked this rumour. They also debunked an ealier rumour that this will be a two part film. No its just one film.
Their will be a charater called David, a 6 foot 5 inch tall android thats a primitive version of the ones we know. The character will be all CGI motion capture like Gollum. Michelle Yeoh is lined up for a big part in the film. leonardo D'Caprio was interested in a role but now can't make it. The plot is the same as the origonal trilogy, an Alien creature killing off the crew one by one horribly. The protagonists are a group of explorers who find something that begins to kill them. Its classed as a reboot, however its intention will be to link up with the origonal Alien at the end. Ridley wants to cut off the Alien vs Predator trilogy and give a totally different origin story. Filming begins in Feb 2011 for a Dec 2011 release. Rumours are about that they are designing an Alien Pyramid to be built in the Moroccan desert. A set/prop designer @ Pinewood has reported saying what they are working on is very, very cool.
This is the current rumour mill.

alien, aliens and alien 3, were indeed the beginning the middle and the end, alien res was a joke, the avp films were a stop gap till they could come up woth something better for either franchise which i thnk they did with predators it was a good movie, but i'll reserve judgement on pormetheous until i see it

I agree, Alien res was a bit of a joke, it past the time but it certainly wasn't memorable. I even though Alien 3 was a big disappointment, it was as if the Director and producers had thrown Cameron's carefully laid plans out of the window and decided to kill everyone off except Ripley. Now whenever I watch Alien's I think "There's no point trying to save Newt, because some prat is going to snuff her and Hicks before the third film even gets started". Missed opportunity.

I actually still enjoyed films 3 and 4. I was extremely disappointed that they just killed off Hicks and Newt without a thought though - lazy writing in my opinion. 3 is much better if you watch the proper uncut version of it (not the one the studio cut to Hell for the theatrical release). I thought 4 was alright too - it had some good set pieces (especially the under water scene) and some good performances (Brad Dourif is always brilliant). Overall though the first 2 films are by far the best.
