I know they've made it like this to make it look like a period film but I would rather have a modern full colour film. More like Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong. It can look period without it looking tacky.

Yes, I'd love to see a big budget period version. I'll let you know what they're both like when I've watched them. Hoping for them to arrive in 2 or 3 days.

The Call of Cthulhu is very good. As for wanting to see it in mega-blockbuster colour and sound, yes, that would be nice, but the world is large enough for there to be other approaches and it's hardly the fault of the makers of TCoC if a big studio's not interested in doing it. The faux silent movie approach works very well, especially when you watch the Making Of documentary - the colour rushes with sound are rather cringeworthy, the acting simply isn't good enough to bear up to spoken dialogue and it looks cheap in colour. Making it look like a 1920s film covers a multitude of sins.

Moving to a talkie for The Whisperer is a natural progression for them then.

I've now watched both The Whisperer in the Darkness and The Call of Cthulhu. Both were excellent adaptions of the work and well worth watching.
