I'm curious, does the Orson Welles broadcast have any connections/references to the original Wells novel (outside of the Martians, of course ;D)? I've never heard it, but plan to soon. However, I remember hearing that the broadcast was a fairly loose adaptation.

Aside from the character names, setting, and human technology, it's virtually the same as the novel. But it's still worth a listen, some lines are quite chilling. The one that I remember the most is, "Why...it's standing on legs!"

I always assumed Welles' character "Professor Pierson" was a reference to Pearson's Magazine, which originally serialised WOTW in the UK in 1897-98. But maybe it was a coincidence.
