HMS Ark Royal is to be scrapped almost immediately as part of the huge defence spending review. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-11570593A sad loss and a sad end to one of the vessels that helped us win the Falkland's Conflict. Also raises strategic concerns...

It's absolutely disgusting, we may as well erect signs on the beaches saying "Please Invade" but I suspect they would fall victim to spending cuts as well!!

I'm sure there's a community project out there who will see the importance of such signs and make sure they're erected anyway...
After these cuts we will essentially be completely defenceless against anything bigger than some minor civil unrest.

Oh man, not the Ark Royal. It's always a sad thing when a good ship is scrapped. The USS Enterprise will sadly follow suit in two years. But, scrapping a ship is still better than letting it rust away, like the SS United States. But, here's to that gallant Ark Royal. I'll sure miss it.

After the previous Government bankrupted this country I doubt we are worth invading. Even the Martians would pack up and go home.

This is all George Bush's fault. Whether it is or not, he deserves the blame.

Man, whilst military spending does at times seem excessive this is going to raise some concerns.

This whole thing smacks of Chamerlain climbing off the plane quoting Peace in our Time. With all these cuts something is going to massivly kick off and we'll be stuffed. Ourt combined budget for the NHS and welfare state is over 300 BILLION a year. our military budget is barely 30. Slash the waste in the NHS, half the welfare state. Give employers the incentive to train our own people in creating jobs and stop them frtom recuriting cheap labour from abroad. Enough is enough. PS: i agree with the cuts, they are nessesary and needed, but i just feel the scroungers will still be sponging and those who need it will once again suffer once the shit hits the fan.

I totally agree, Rus. I didn't think this country could sink any lower, but it is.
