I play the RPG d20 Modern. I'm planning a campaign where the players follow the events of The War of the Worlds. Since I'm REALLY bad at creating homebrewed statistics, I'd like someone to come up with statistics for the Martians, the tripod, the Handling-machine, the Flying-machine, the Embankment-machine, the Heat-Ray, the black smoke, the red weed, and the HMS Thunder Child. (By the way, if you're not familiar with d20 Modern, you can find the official site here.)

What's an Embankment machine? Never heard of that one. I've never heard of that game so I'm not sure I can help. But maybe if you start work on it and give us more info, I might be able to offer some assistance, perhaps.

Ahh I remember that in the book, it's the machine that has no martian operator. I'll try and find the section.......

Here it is;
"When I looked again, the busy handling-machine had already put together several of the pieces of apparatus it had taken out of the cylinder into a shape having an unmistakable likeness to its own; and down on the left a busy little digging mechanism had come into view, emitting jets of green vapour and working its way round the pit, excavating and embanking in a methodical and discriminating manner. This it was which had caused the regular beating noise, and the rhythmic shocks that had kept our ruinous refuge quivering. It piped and whistled as it worked. So far as I could see, the thing was without a directing Martian at all."

So that will be the Digging Mechanism then. I know THAT one. An interesting machine... and a somewhat eerie description of it.

This is (as far as I know) the only visual depicment of an Embankment-machine. It appears in the graphic novel retelling of TWotW that you can view online by clicking on the link in my signature. Top left: The Handling-machine assembling a tripod. Top right: The guy with the glasses is the crazy priest, and the other guy is the narrator. Bottom left: The Embankment-machine. Bottom right: The Embankment-machine next to a basket of people.

Well. Whatever the machine in question is called (Digging Mechanism *cough*), I did make a point. That point was that I'll be happy to help, if I can, but know little about this game. If you want to give a rundown of how it works and such, maybe I, or someone else here, can help.

The Basic Core Rulebook itself is 384 pages long, contains incredibly detailed and complex rules, and it's illegal to post the information online without an Open Gaming Content License and special permission from Wizards of the Coast. It costs about $40 here in the US. I don't know how much that is in the UK, but the point is, it's basically impossible to be able to know the rules without buying the book, borrowing one from a friend, etc. Sorry. I just thought there would be some more gamers here. I guess things like D&D don't have as big fanbases in the UK then in the US. Again, sorry. But if you're willing to buy a copy, I recommend going to a local gaming store, such as Games Plus or a Wizards of the Coast store.

There is (I think) a war of the Worlds source book for the d20 game. My other half bought it for me off eBay a couple of birthdays ago. I can't find it right now (other half isn't well and I don't want to disturb her), but I'll have a look later if I can.
I've never played the game myself, but I seem to remember that it had something along the lines of 'compatable with the d20 system' written on the back. Whether it's the same game you're talking about I can't be sure, But I'll try and dig it out (my room is in total disarray, and I don't know where anything is exactly).
It's not a bad little sourcebook, and best of all it has the complete text of the novel included.

I googled it, and apparently, it's published by Gold Rush Games. Does anybody know where I could download it for free or get it at a low price? (By low price, I mean between 5 and 15 US dollars.) Or maybe you could post the statistics here?
