I recently purchased a DVD to a new Brit sci-fi comedy. Starhyke is a six episode, 30 min long show. Made in 2009 it has never been shown on British television.
The story revolves around the crew of the 31st century starship Nemesis that finds itself trapped around 21st century Earth. To make matters worse the crew who come from a scociety where all emotion is purged all have their emotions returned. With all inhibitions gone they all begin to try to deal with their new emotions with all the mad drives that go with them.
The show style is basically madcap humour that borrows from the Carry On films, Police Squad, Monty Python and of course Red Dwarf.
The lead actor is Babylon 5's own Claudia Christian and the other actors all have had experience in the science fiction genre. My fave is character in the show is played by actor Jeremy Bulloch who was Boba Fett from Empire Strikes Back. He plays the ships doctor that turns into a pill/drink swilling nurse chasing loony that loves dubious medical experiments!
Its a great little show that deserves more credit and attention than its got. Yes its a new show and suffers from first season blues but its a damn good effort without any major company backing it.
I suppose why no channel hasnt picked it up i think is to do with being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Comedy nowadays is very sterile, politically based and PC. Starhyke isnt any of these things at its heart is old fashioned slapstic, madness. Persoanally all the better for it.
Its on DVD all episodes and a bonus disk. if you like mental humour you will love this, if you want PC based alternative rot, dont look here.
7/10 great little show. ;D
I leave you with this: Special Guest in one episode is none other than Sir Patrick Moore as a Ali G space alien, enjoy!
Trailer: (doesnt do the show justice.)
