I finally got around to watching this one last night.
Director: Gareth Edwards, Stars: Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able Six years after Earth has suffered an alien invasion a cynical journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through an infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.
It's fairly low budget and parts of it feel a little bit like Cloverfield, but then some of it has a bit of a mocumentary feel to it and then the rest is a bit The Mist/The Road. It sounds like a stange old mix, but it works. The special effects aren't great because of the film's low budget, but they work and they're perfectly adequate. It has a very realistic feel to it - everything seems plausible and believeable. The two central characters are the linchpin for the whole story and because these two characters are so real and we feel for them it makes the whole story that bit more believeable. Overall it's a very well crafted film with two excellent performances, a cracking plot and decent effects. Well worth watching and one that I will buy to add to the DVD collection.
